Good for banging around with the kids
By Greg from South Windsor, CT on 1/13/2009
Pros:
Compact, Easy Entry & Exit, Stable
Cons:
Poor Tracking, Slow
Best Uses:
Ocean Swells, Rivers
Describe Yourself:
Recreational
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
This is my 4th sit-on-top. I have one other that I would put in the same category as the Yak Board. The biggest drawback is its poor tracking. I was out on a lake with a friend and he just could not keep up. I have an Islander sit-on-top that I got at one of the chain sporting goods stores, same length for the same price that tracks much better and is easier to paddle. The Yak Board has plenty of strap eyes to hook up leg straps and gear (I had to add them myself to the Islander, it was easy).
It did really well when I took it to a river dam release. The water was high and the kayak responded very well in the rapids. This is the reason I would recomend the boat. Of my four kayaks, this is definitely my whitewater kayak.
When I took it surfing it did just "OK". Since it was slow, it made it kind of tough to catch some waves, but the waves weren't that great the day I went out so I don't know if that had something to do with it.
It's a very stable boat. The kids can get on and off it very easily. For the price, it's not a bad choice for a family.

It is what it is. It's very maneuverable. Very fun in the surf or rivers and lakes, but plan on getting wet. Make sure you buy the optional back support right away, you will later, if not. High quality product[...] I bought two (green and yellow)...the whole family loves them.

When I just want to get on the water quickly, this little board is perfect. It is stable enough for both my dogs to sit on it with me. They add an extra 90 lbs and it is still easy to maneuver.
