Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

love this thing. A couple more pockets, perhaps one inside, would be nice. The zippers are a bit tough to pull, but that's due to the waterproofing seals.

Great for summer use over a coolmax or heat shield shirt. Breaths very well. Can also be used with layers for spring and fall.

I've used this down to freezing with layers and been perfectly comfortable without having to carry my winter shell which is much larger and tougher to pack.

It also blocks wind pretty well. Tough to beat this thing. Though it is pricey and I almost didn't buy b/c of that, I'm glad that I did.

    Highly recommended.

    Change is good!

    By SCOTHIKER

    from Inverness, FL

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

Was really impressed with the light weight and small amount of space it takes in my pack. I like the fit as well - Not tight, but close enough to not bunch up around my pack. The long underarm zips also help out with the historical problem of perspiring during use in warm weather.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

I was skeptical about spending the extra $$ for Gore-Tex, but after reading some reviews I decided to take the plunge in hopes that I wouldn't have to buy another rain jacket for a long time. I'm very happy I did. I have owned several other lightweight rain jackets (EMS & REI brands) that served their purpose, but none of them are as breathable as the Gore-Tex material. I used this jacket yesterday in a downpour and stayed perfectly dry. In fact, I left it on when I got back to the car and didn't even have that clammy feeling inside the jacket like I used to with the other, less expensive styles. I'm VERY happy with my purchase and hope it stays as nice for years to come!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

I bought the 2008 Deluge and was absolutely blown away by it. I used it for everything, and the dark grey went well with some of my nicer outfits. I even used it in the winter with a thick fleece pullover underneath.

Unfortunately, my jacket was stolen this spring. But, I'm dedicated to these jackets, so I decided to buy the 2009 version. There are three changes with the current jacket with which I disagree.

        1) The cuff tabs were formally part of the cuff. I could't even call them integrated, because it was better than that. They were the cuff, and it was done brilliantly.

        2) The zippers didn't have any rubber grips that could fall off. Simplicity at its best.

        3) The handwarmer pockets were formerly breast pockets. Many people decried them as being too small and of no use, but I thought they were great. There was also a pocket on the left upper arm. The handwarmer pockets are awkward to actually put and leave anything in.

          A great jacket for cycling

          By Patrick the cycling commuter

          Pros

          • Lightweight

          Cons

          Best Uses

          • Cycling
          • Running
          • Summer hiking

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

I bought this jacket for cycling and other active sports such as running. And for that it doesn't disappoint.

The fit is near perfect for cycling with a mid-length cut at the waist. I wish the lower portion didn't bulge when zipped, but this can be remedied using the bottom zipper.

The jacket itself is very lightweight, which makes me question the durability. I guess I'll find out when I crash at some point. :)

Waterproofness is without question; I've already had a few rain rides.

The best part is the breathability! With some fine-tuning of the pit zips, I'm able to wear this jacket on my rides to work and not take a sweat bath.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

Only two color options, way too limited. Am sure there are practical uses for having the black or (super bright) orange, but what about the rest of us that'd like something less extreme! I bought and returned the old Deluge (green color) because the cut/fit was weird -- the new Deluge fits great but, unless there's a blue or nice green, am not buying it.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

I wanted a packable rain jacket that didn't leave me feeling wet. This one fits the bill. I commute daily into Boston as well as go on weekend hikes, so a waterproof, breathable shell is a very nice piece of apparel. What I didn't expect was how wind proof this jacket is. I'm looking forward to giving it a workout through a New England winter.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

compared to the cloudburst, which was $40 less, this jacket felt like the cheaper of the two. My biggest complaint was the placement of the pockets... They were too high and it only had two. The Cloudburst had better placement of the two side pockets and included a much needed chest pocket. I didn't like the hood either because it had no collar when not using it. The zippers and GoreTex material were great and breathable but those were the only positives. I wish you had the Cloudburst design in the GoreTex material...that would be the perfect jacket. I would have even paid the Deluge price! As it was, this jacket was returned.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Deluge Rain Jacket:

I happened to stop by EMS in Paramus on a day they were offering 25% off on all EMS apparel. Needing a good waterproof jacket for some time, the sales guy pointed me to the Deluge and recommended I get the medium, even though it felt a little on the big side. This turned out to be good advice because it leaves room to wear a sweater or soft shell jacket underneath without feeling squeezed. Although the sleeves were long for me, the velcro cuffs let you cinch them up around your wrists so they don't interfere with your hands. As I later found out, the option to un-cinch them and tuck your hands inside is invaluable if you find yourself without gloves in freezing rain and gale force winds on the summit of Mt Marcy!
Although my shirt was totally drenched and I was starting to shiver by the time I conceded I would have to interrupt my speed climb to put on my jacket, the EMS Deluge did a great job of keeping me warm considering the 40F temps, 60-70MPH winds and steady rain.
Although I have yet to try it out in a true deluge, based on my experience riding motorcycles in all kinds of weather, a 60MPH wind will force a surprising amount of water through even the smallest leak point in your rain gear. I made a point of checking the inside of this jacket when I got back to the parking lot at the Loj and saw no sign that water had come through any of the seams or zippers.
Bottom line is I'm glad I spent the extra money on this model.
Note: Even though these jackets run big, I rated it true to size since you really should get one that fits loosely enough to wear something warm underneath when it get's really cold out.
