Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Helix Jacket:

I originally had the previous version of this jacket (the one with the orange zippers) and was a bit unsatisfied since it lacked a few key featuires that I really wanted (like pit zips). Also, after a year it needed to be replaced since the neoshell membrane was delaminating around the neck.

EMS was amazing and replaced my old jacket, no questions asked, with the updated one (black zips). The update is amazing. They added key features like pit zips which make dumping heat during high activities pursuits a snap. Also, they added zipper garages on the front pockets to make sure no water gets it at all. Additionally, the fit has been updated on this version. The collar is higher, the hood slightly bigger, the jacket is longer through the body, and the cut is a bit more fitted.

Overall, an awesome jacket. My first day out with it I was ice climbing in 40* weather and rain (bascially I was doing chin ups under a cold shower). This jacket kept me warm and dry all day.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Helix Jacket:

I would not recommed this product if weight is your main concern. This jacket is much heavier than advertised. The description says 12.8 oz. I confirmed this with EMS customer services and they confirmed the weight. I had it weighed in a lab and it was approximately 640 grams or 22.6 oz shich is still heavier than the older version (described as 1 lb 2.4 oz (521 grams) Definatley not light weight. 12.8 oz might be the fabric weight but not the jacket weight.

The look an feel of the fabric is very nice and appears to be good quality.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Helix Jacket:

Needed a new shell to take to NH for COLD single-digit skiing. Bought this jacket the day it arrived at my local EMS store. Had heard a lot about neoshell, but couldn't cough up $350+ for a brand-name jacket. Was interested in the EMS version, but the first Helix jacket got negative reviews for the zipper, which apparently got caught in the wind-flap.

First things first, believe the hype. Neoshell manages to actually breath (air-permeable) without compromising it's ability to keep in the warmth in near-zero temperatures. I skied all day with this bad boy and never got cold or hot. It's the best kind of equipment--the kind you can forget about and focus on your experience.

Second, happy to report zero problems with the zipper. Kudos to EMS for reading the reviews on their gear and making adjustment with the new Helix jacket.

Third, the fit is fantastic. Somehow they managed to make a jacket that doesn't look baggy but allows ample room for layering. FYI, I am 6', 170lbs, and Medium fit me perfect.

Lastly, they managed to do a hood that is both helmet compatible but still usable for those who are too foolish to wear one.

              Well-done EMS!
