Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Pemi 20° Sleeping Bag, Regular:

I own a bunch of sleeping bags: -20 synth, 0 synth and down, 20 synth, 35 synth, 40 synth, 3 "summer". The 20 and the 3 summer bags are old Coleman rectangular bags with flannel (cotton!) lining. All the rest are mummy bags with synthetic shells.

The two 0 bags, and the 35 and 40 bags are all EMS brand and I've been very happy with them, so when I saw this 20 degree mummy on sale, I ordered one because I never use the Coleman 20 anymore (way to big and heavy) and either I freeze in my 35 or sweat in my 0.

It came with a nice mesh storage sack like my 35 degree bag whereas both my 0 degree bags have linen storage sacks. But unlike those other EMS bags did not come with a compression sack for on the trail. Instead it came with a color and material matched sack with just a draw string, so packed it is almost 50 percent bigger than the down 0 bag, and just slightly bigger than the synthetic 0 bag. I see I'm going to have to invest in a compression sack, thus canceling the savings from it being on sale ... If I had noticed that in the store I might not have bought it since packed size matters a lot to me.

At the very first use last weekend when temps were in the low 30s, I had a bit of difficulty getting it completely closed because the zipper snagged twice ... and in the dark with only moon light and my glasses off I had a devil of a time for a couple minutes until I finally used on hand the hold the draft tube aside while I zipped with the other, which worked but was tricky the last 3 inches in the tight mummy.

It is light, fits great for me (5' 10"), and worked great in the temp range I bought it for. But because of the snagging zipper and the way way way too large packed size it is only getting 3 stars.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Pemi 20° Sleeping Bag, Regular:

I work in the EMS stores, and have for the past 5 years. The gentleman who just was newly hired to be one of 3 gear designers for EMS has been managing EMS stores for over 7 years. On top of that, he uses almost 100% custom made outdoor cold-weather clothing; this guy is IN to gear. Regardless, I met him a few years ago and after hearing about his position change, I called and asked him what the 3 best camping products by EMS were for 2014 and THIS was the first thing out of his mouth. He has been testing it himself (along with our regular test group) and he is completely pumped that he was able to have most of the input in designing this one. DISCLAIMER: I don't own it. But so far I have sold many and believe the construction is far superior of many similar options. If you don't like it, keep your receipt and we'll help you out!
