Rock Climbing 201

Now that you’ve completed Rock Climbing 101, you’re ready to really put those skills to use on the cliff. We’ll build off your basic climbing knowledge and focus on application: when is it best to use one technique rather than another? Which gear is most appropriate for which situation? Is it best to steer toward the cracks, or stick with the footholds on the face? All these issues can be addressed while getting in some great climbing, and we can add pitches of different character or difficulty as we go, depending upon your needs.

From here, the next logical step is our Rock Climbing 202 course. Many of our climbers also choose to climb privately with a guide to further develop their skills.

Note: Groups classes require a minimum enrollment of two people. If you are booking alone for a class your reservation is subject to change up until the last day if the minimum enrollment is not reached. If you have a flexible schedule and you do not mind being matched with other climbers for the day, joining a class is a great cost savings way to take a lesson. If you have a limited schedule, or you do not wish to be paired with other climbers, we strongly recommend booking a private lesson. Private lessons can be booked any day of the week and are guaranteed to run. For information about private reservations please call 800-310-4504.

Groups meet promptly at 8:30am at the Eastern Mountain Sports in Gardiner (Gunks). Click here for directions. In the morning you will meet your guide, sign a waiver form, and get fitted with climbing gear for the day. Once everyone is outfitted groups will leave straight for the trail head. The whole day will be spent outside so please dress appropriate for the weather. You should also bring enough food and water for the entire day and a backpack to carry items to the cliff. The day will end around 4:30pm back at EMS.

Included/ Not Included

Climbers will be outfitted with all technical equipment for the day. You are welcome to bring your own equipment but it will be subject to approval by your guide. See gear list for complete list of items you will be responsible for bringing. Meals, lodging and transportation are not included.
