Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
My family and I, including my 80 year old grandfather, go hiking frequently every year in the White Mountains. My grandfather has used this guidebook to plan each of our hikes, and it has always led us on great trips with reliable and realistic descriptions of the trails. While not extremely waterproof or tearproof, it is rather compact and will last a long time if kept in a pack while hiking.

It needs to include CD's of maps, waterproof and tear proof maps.
