I went to the Appalachian trail and the pack was so bulky and the pockets and entire distribution of compartments is totally unpractical. the worst part was to put on the bag, the external structure is dangerous and has left me all bruised up. Also the shoulder strps padding is like is made of iron, which makes it very painful.
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Wow...well we are truly surprised and saddened to hear the pack treated you so poorly. It has been a staple of the outdoor industry for generations...although that doesn't mean it is for everyone. Our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports® purchase.

I've tried the lightest packs and the discomfort and back sweat have kept me coming back to this durable comfortable and safe pack that stays on one's back if you fall into a creek or down a mountain side! The extra pound(s) are offset by the comfort and safety. The inventor of the kidney strap and light frame knew what he was doing! Don't be add driven by the paper tigers posing as backpacks. Stay with the best!

This is a great product! It is the perfect size backpack for a teenager. There are enough compartments and storage areas to hold all of the gear a scout needs to take with him for weekend and week long campouts.
