Although we don't live in the artic north, it was pretty cold this winter in Ardmore, Alabama. We were bundling everyone up in cumbersome coats, which made going out of the house a real hassle. We were so excited to receive our EMS jackets and didn't mind going out again. Not only are our jackets extremely warm, they are very stylish and good looking. My girls love their coats because they don't want to take the time to bundle up. Our family has 5 different products of EMS and we love all of them because of their light weight, their stylishness, how they keep us warm and dry no matter how bad the weather. We would recommend your products any time.johnr[@]

I go to Syracuse where the winters are cold, its is a great jacket for battling the cold, windy weather. Not only that, I purchased the waterproof shell that syncs right onto the fleece. This was another great purchase and i use the combination for snowboarding. I have and I will continue to recommend the SYNC products made by EMS.

Great base layer or standalone top. Very warm and because its a mid/heavy weight, not the highest breathability, so be careful not to use when the temps are warmer. Sleeves are a little longer than standard (because its part of the sync family I guess) with nice tight openings so your wrists (and consequently your hands) keep really warm.

I was looking for a little wind protection in a fleece, so I got the Wind Pro, but the huge stretch panels on the back and sides defeat the whole purpose. Wind goes right through. I returned it and got a thicker, full wind pro jacket from elsewhere.
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Glad you found what works for you. WindStopper is the way to go if you are looking for complete cover from the wind. WindPro is highly wind repellent, especially when compared to your average fleece...but it sounds as though WindStopper is what you needed. Thanks for the review.

I had owned an older school Divergence fleece and loved it. I was a little scared that the new model wouldn't live up to the older ones. I was wrong, it totally did. the jacket is warm, fitted, has a very simple design, and is a great layer. The chest pocket is so great. I don't know why it's so great, there's just something about it. Overall, a good fall/spring jacket, and a great layer under a shell for really cold days.

Cut is on the "trim" side. I say this because I am 6'2", 280 lbs and pretty muscular and the XXL it is cut to fit me perfectly (like it is custom cut for me but not tight)...the way it tapers at the waist is great. I wear this as a casual jacket and have been warm in it with a t-shirt on in temps to 20 degrees. It is very well designed and has a great overall look.

Consider this as an addendum to my earlier review of the Divergence Fleece. I wasn’t too hot on the model that I bought last year, but the new version that is available now, is greatly improved. EMS really listened to the customers on this one. The material that pilled so badly has now been replaced by something very similar to the great EMS 2004 fleece. And thankfully, the chest pocket has made a reappearance. I REALLY missed having the chest pocket for my Ipod, sunglasses, or whatever I’m carrying that day.
The fit also seems to have improved greatly. I can now hold my arms up over my head, without the bottom of the fleece riding up too far. The overall fit of the fleece is now a very athletic cut, which I like very much. EMS even saw fit to add the draw strings back to the waist of the jacket, which is a huge improvement. The fit is as perfect as the 2004 model. I can wear it as a layer underneath a shell, or as an outer layer over a t-shirt on warmer days.
Overall, this is an extraordinarily good fleece. Every bit as good as the 2004 model. I wore it out for a casual two hour hike yesterday, with the temperature just below freezing, and was perfectly comfortable. I’m sure that if I were exerting myself harder, I could be comfortable at an even lower temperature.
Looks great and very warm!

Just got this, so I can't comment on pilling or durability. But like others, I feel this fleece doesn't stack up to my older EMS model--it simply fits weird. Whereas the old one fits great and stretches as I move, this one feels baggy around the underarms, and the sleeves are really really long--at least an extra 6".
Also, I'm not impressed with the sync feature, as this jacket is a couple inches longer than the orion sync shell (same size), so sticks out below (and can get wet). Attaching fleece to shell isn't important to me (who cares?), but the fleece should at least be covered.
Does anyone else feel that EMS sizes are growing? 10 years ago I took mediums, 5 years ago smalls, and now this small is almost too big. I don't think I'm shrinking...

Their seems to be a lot of controversy about this jacket & it seems to have undergone many changes.
I have worn it in 45 degree weather with just a 't' shirt & it was ok for a ten minute walk in winds of 10-15 mph, 35 degrees with a long sleeve 't' was ok. It seemed relativly wind proof but I think it is important to keep it in prespective, with regular polar fleece just the act of walking generates enough breeze to blow through it. The sleeves are a little long but I like that feature to protect my hands. The body is long enought to cover my rear, another good thing. I have not had it out in the rain, thought I expect it to be some what water repellent I would not use it for a rain coat (it is polar fleece). I'll be using to walk the dog & for kayak camping. All in all, a great jacket, good quality, I would buy it again!

I purchased my first Divergence jacket in 2004. I absolutely loved it. Bought another one in 2006 and liked the fact that they gave the sleeves an extension...perfect for tucking your gloves in the sleeves without having to worry about them pulling away. Only downfalls were the lack of the Napoleon pocket and the high pill rate of the fleece.
Purchased the new version and yes it has the sleeve extensions, the Napoleon pocket and the fleece is non-pilling. Please EMS do NOT change this jacket! If you decide to do anything to it, maybe put a small valuables pocket on one of the sleeves.
It is my go to jacket in the Spring, Fall and Winter.

Worn alone for mild activities, this jacket is suitable down to about 45 degrees at best. Adding a shell on top of the jacket provides little more benefit. The neck is quite large which allows for a decent amount of cold air to enter and warm air to exit. This almost negates the windproof benefit of the jacket. A drawstring adjustment around the neck would be a welcome addition. I think this is a decent buy for wearing around town at the sale price of [$], but I wouldn't depend on it for serious cold weather activities. For the full price, there are better choices out there.
