This is my 4th Bullet pack. It's great how the Bullet rests high on your back giving you more agility.
great for an extra jacket and some grub
After trying 2 other small, light fastpack for summiting from basecamp. This one is has the right combination lightweight but not light on features or comfort. It allows me to leave my Osprey 65 at basecamp and take along the basics (rainshell, water, a couple of snacks, headlamp) and still have room for my DSLR and fastpack to the summit. The straps are comfy and it wears like iron. I use the front pocket like a "stuff sack" and reverse stuff the pack and straps into it and zip it shut. Its small size fit just right at the top od the spindrift collar in my trail pack. That is my only suggestion for future improvements, make the pocke zipper dual sided and add a couple of lash points to clip it to the ladder ties on the outside of your pack if you're packing a full load.
I use this bag to carry my climbing shoes, nalgenes, chalk bag, and many other things when I go bouldering. I can fit my shoes, harness and other items in it to do gym climbing as well. I have used it to free climb at Vedauwoo, Wyoming, working chimneys where the bag is dragging and rubbing on the EXTREMELY rough granite at Vedauwoo, and after doing that for 4 months on end...IT STILL LOOKS NEW!!! The material is amazing and the bag almost seems like a bottomless pit, despite how it looks when you just look at it with the naked eye. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Don't let it's size fool you. This bag can hold a lot of stuff. I can easily fit my harness, shoes, chalk bag, water bottle, wallet & keys, a Clif bar or two, AND whatever book I'm reading at the time in this bag.
Aside from climbing uses, this is a great city commuter bag - whether on foot or on a bike - this bag holds all your daily needs and leaves room for whatever you pick up along the way. Super lightweight, a waist strap for when you've got to hunker down and run to catch the train or bus or when you're riding a bike.
This is the best little backpack I've ever owned.
Built very well, wanted something small and light-weight, but when it arrived was a little smaller than I had anticipated. Wanted something smaller than an average school bag, but its maybe half the size? Still works for what I needed, climbing shoes, harness, and the beeners and what not.
Every time I go on a trip, I'm unhappy with the day bag I bring. With the Bullet, the search is finally over.
My husband and I shared this bag during our recent vacation traveling through Mexico. We could both fit everything we needed for the day into this bag (guide books, rain gear, water, sunscreen, etc) and it was never too heavy. It's big enough to hold everything but not so big you bring everything. Plus, when it's empty, it's super light, so you never mind bringing it along.
The all-black design is sleek enough for use in the city and the design is rugged enough for years of use.
Love it!
The Bullet (in various incarnations) has been my go-to day-hiking bag for around a decade now. It has been redesigned over time, but in some ways it's never been better.
It is small, but big enough. It encourages smart packing, rather than carrying the kitchen sink. (It doesn't have a padded back panel, so you need to arrange the contents smartly as well.)
It has a main compartment and a front pocket for smaller items, so you're not blundering around trying to find which gosh-darn pocket you put something in (one caveat: the front pocket zipper is shorter than in the past and you can't stuff quite as much into it).
The Bullet's good for a hike, or on a bike, but I've used it for a month's travel overseas in warm countries -- my only bag for weeks of ultralight travel in the tropics. Or Vegas. It's a great airline bag, too.
If it seems a little small for you, I'd recommend the new Hollowpoint -- a 20-liter pack much like the 16-liter Bullet.
