Great for just about anything, I use this for sport climbing, glacier climbing, alpine climbing, and it could even be used in the gym if you wanted.

This rope is best suited for either trad routes or multi-pitch sport climbs. On trad routes the ability to clip pieces into either strand allows better rope management on traverses or any wandering route - greatly reducing rope drag and making leading much easier (no dead weight). This also reduces impact force in case of a leader fall.
If you plan to climb in Europe, especially in the Alps, this double rope is a great option. Many alpine sport routes require at least a 50m rappel, so a 60m single rope won't cut it! Elsewhere you'll get back down to the bottom of the cliff twice as fast.
It also allows a leader to belay 2 seconds (one on each strand) since each rope can hold a single person if there is little impact force (ie: top roping or climbing as a second).
Mammut also says that the 8.5 diameter allows the rope to be used with either twin or double technique, something that was not recommended for older, larger diameter double ropes.
Safe, dependable, and rugged, these ropes will allow you to go places that you can't with a single rope.
