Purchased this in Lake Placid, and first used it shortly after on Mt. Marcy in the ADK high peaks. A friend became unable to walk, and it turned out an air lift would require more than four hours of wait time.
A fire was a necessary to keep our grounded friend from freezing in the snow. I piped this product directly onto the snow, and it lit! It then burned hot and long enough to ignite old, semi-wet wood.
Kept us warm and alive until the helicopter arrived.
I've never had to relight any fire i started this with.
Besides it's intended use as a fire-starter, this stuff is great to prime liquid fuel stoves. I use it to prime my SVEA 123, Optimus 111 and Coleman stoves. It burns steadily and predictably, leaves very little residue, and you can put the paste exactly where you want it.
I saw a Special Forces Captain carry this in his Ruck Sack. I came across the Mautz Fire Ribbon which was sold at the Book Store on the Palisades Pkwy in NY. I snatched the last one on the shelf. Did a test in a coffee can with a tiny piece of paper for kindling. It burns fast, burns high, quick, and hot. Will test in field and believe it will live up to its expectations.
This stuff is incredible. It's worth its weight in gold when starting a fire. Starts fast and stays burning until you run out of fuel. Try one tube and you'll never go camping without it.
