This is a great stove! It is so lightweight and small you don't even realize you have it. It really puts out the heat. The only thing you have to be careful about is when using bigger pots, it might get a bit unstable. Other than that I can't complain about this thing at all.

I just used this stove on a week long kayak trip down the Soca River. This stove was perfect for the trip. Its very compact and I never had a problem lighting this at anytime. The temperature control was great on it and it gets ridiculously hot very quickly. For the price you can not beat this product. Not sure how well it would function in high altitude but it was really windy and rainy on one of the beaches we stopped at for lunch and when we had trouble lighting a real fire this stove shot right up.

I hike whatever i can whenever i can. from section hiking the AT, the BAtona trail, or bushwackin' through the Catskills in NY, I love to hike. This baby never let me down. My exact words when i wanted a new stove "I need something that lights the first time, every time, and won't let me down." The pocket rocket hasnt let my down, end of story. would rate it 5 out of five stars, but i havent used it for enough years to win that kinbd of award.

I use it for backpacking/hiking/overnights. I like that it is compact, lightweight and easy to operate. The only caution is to make sure you have a good base to set it on for stability. I started with a 70 lb pack years ago and now with this type of gear I have a pack down to less than 40 lbs.

I used this stove for a 3 day trip on the Appalachian Trail to cook for two. It worked great and meet all of my expectations. It was small enough to fit itself and the fuel canister inside my cook set but packed enough punch to cook our meals in no time. A great stove for overnight hikes.

This is one of the most amazing pieces of equiptment i have ever used. The heat output is amazing, and can be improved by wraping a little foil around the bottom of the pot. if someone stuck it in my pack, i would not even notice it due to it's small size and weight (or lack there of). I have used it on many camping trips, and i always stick it in my pack in case one of the stoves we planned to use breaks. AMAZING!!!!!

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Sliced bread is a luxury really.

This is a great entry level stove for anyone who is looking for a stove for 3-season weekend camping trips. The size is great, it fits inside my Snow Peak 1400 cookset with a 8oz fuel canister. I have bought the jetboil pot support and use the plastic support with the MSR fuel canister. works great at making the stove more stable plus it keeps the canister off the ground to decrease heat transfer, which reduces stove performance.

Impressive for size,weight and bulk!

Cons:
Susceptible to Wind

I just used this stove for the first time in the Mokelumne Wilderness in the Sierra Nevadas at about 8500', and it worked very well overall. It is incredibly small and lightweight which is great. The stability, even with the taller 8 oz. fuel canister, is surprisingly good even with a 24 oz. pot on it full of water. The only MAJOR drawback is how susceptible to wind it is! When the wind is blowing the flame definitely suffers and makes boiling times a lot longer and keeping a consistent temperature difficult. At lower flame settings it's not as bad obviously. This is unfortunate given that you can't use a windscreen with it. My advice, find a good spot shielded from the wind- of course that's easier said than done. In summary, this is a great stove for the price, weight, size etc. The fuel canisters aren't too much of a hassle either and make lighting very easy. Enjoy!

Best stove for me
By Big Yellow Dog OwnerVerified Purchaser from Peterborough, NH on 10/18/2006
Pros:
Great temperature control, Lightweight
Cons:
Unstable
Best Uses:

I love it, boils water in 4 minutes or less. Fuel lasts a long time, but be careful if your camping with your dog, he might knock it over easily and your mac and cheese will be half on the ground.

It worked out well for me

Pros:
Great temperature control, Lightweight
Cons:
Unstable

Great product. Comes in a nice small carrying case, very lightweight, and boils water super fast. Great for cooking ramen noodels! It is very wind resistant as well. I boiled water in 40 mph winds! The only downside is that you have to keep it level and dont knock into it, the stability is a little iffy. Overall, great product though. I say buy it!

it boils water incredibly fast. The stove is light and compact- perfect for backpacking. One can of IsoPro fuel lasted me all summer. The only drawback is that the platform is unstable so you have to be pretty careful when cooking
