we bought this to bring along on trips in our Vanagon. It is a nice, sturdy piece of equipment that brews great coffee. But it is really hard to get the grinds out after the fact. It should have a "double bottom" that pulls up or something. Digging into the pot the get to the grinds is just not pretty.
Much better and safer than the lexan one...no BPA. We do wish it had the screen on the pour spout like the lexan one does...but the ss keeps it warmer.
I have a BODUM french coffee press at home and have tried various kettles, straining methods, instant coffees, etc. and decided to splurge on this "rugged" coffee press. It worked like a charm! The notched twisting of the cap area can easily be flip-flopped, but it still works. We got stormed out of camping and made a hasty getaway, so we left the grinds in it and tossed it in the car! They stayed dry and locked away with no spillage until we got home to clean it.
