I got these to replace a worn out pair of MB shoes. For MB, I prefer a higher top, and a bigger tread with a more recessed SPD cleat. That makes the inevitable hike out from the back country now and then easy, as well as a shoe you can wear in a pinch.
These are not quite light weight enough to be a road bike shoe, and not quite heavy duty enough for a MB shoe IMHO. But that is personal preference. These may be just what you are looking for. They work fine for me, and are a good buy.
For sizine, I find these about a half size smaller than NB running shoes, and right about the size of light duty Merrel hikers.
