Need to get a bar to mount any type of bike that doesn't have one..which can be a challenge. I own an old Peugot and it's difficult to find one that fits it securely so it can be mounted on the carrier for long trips. The adjustable carriage is a + (Bought this one as opposed to the SwingDaddy which has a fixed carriage)
The unit is easier to handle onto the vehicle than I thought. The swing arm lock is hard to disengage and requires a lot more effort than it should. Holds two or three bikes easy however is then to heavy too swing out. The locks work great and the bikes are very secure on the rack at any speed or on any terrain. Concerned about the swing arms bending over time.
Does take some work to get four bikes onto the rack. Smaller bikes in particular can be challenging.
This is an excellent product and it fits my truck very well, but it was not designed with enough security. Its nice that it locks to the reciever and the bikes lock to the arms, but anyone with two adjustable wrenches can very quickly walk away with the bikes and half the rack. It should have been constructed with tamper proof security nuts and bolts. I hooked a coated steel cable to the reciever with a lock and when I have the bikes on the rack I loop the cable through the bikes and lock the other end of the cable to the other side of the reciever.
Several friends had bought racks that didn't clear their hatchback or tailgates, and have been disappointed. This rack is well built, rides well on my GMC Canyon, and still make it easy to get into the truck bed. Although expensive, this rack was worth every dollar! Yakima makes a bracket to hold skis too, I'll have to look into that as winter approaches.
