The Garmin Edge 705 provides directions and gives almost every imaginable statistic and some you would not imagine. It installed easily. Displays are cusomizable. It took some work to figure out how to display cadence and heart rate, but it is all there. It does everything but keep a running odometer on the unit--but you've got that too if you download the information onto a computer.
This item is really nothing more than a bigger Edge 305 with color. Sure that is nice, but if you have a 305 there is no real reason to buy this.
Slightly better controls, bigger screen, color, that's it.
The built in base map does not include my local streets and when I am on a main road it shows me off of it by 100 yds.
This unit is a road bike specific unit. I would not recommend it for mountain biking as it can lose its satellite signal under heavy tree cover. The functionality of the unit is easy to understand and comprehensive. With the optional City Navigation software loaded onto a micro-SD, getting lost is a thing of the past. The color screen is very bright and easy to read and functionality of the unit is very intuitive. The heart rate monitor and cadence device work seamlessly with the unit and both provide valuable feedback. Uploading and downloading rides to the Web, although sometimes arduous is a very valuable tool and a great way to track your rides. Overall, I am very happy with this device and would strongly recommend it as long as you can afford it.

I've tried multiple cyclometers before adopting this one for daily usage. Not only does the 705 perform all normal cyclometer functions, but it can get you home on those rides where you just want to get lost. Also, one of my favorite features is "data collection". Before getting this device, I'd go home and enter all of my pertinent information for trending. Now, I attach the 705 to my computer and everything uploads automatically, with alot more detail than previously entered.
If you are looking for a versatile cyclometer and GPS, this is the device. The only drawback, in my mind, is that, like most Garmin products, you need to buy additional maps to make it function at an acceptable level (for navigation). Without City Navigator directions are inferior.
