Great tasting meal

Cons:
Weighs more than others
Best Uses:
Backpacking meal
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

all 3 of us liked this a lot but there are 2 pkgs of peanut butter and one package of peanuts to add to the meal and that is way too much - makes it high in cal but too heavy, messy w/p.b. and lots of packaging garbage left over. If you're a leave-no-trace person as most backpackers should be, garbage is a concern.

This was an excellent meal, though I wouldn't say it was restaurant quality. I was slightly disappointed at first because the meal came out too soupy when prepared as directed -- I'd recommend cutting back on the boiling water, maybe 1/2 cup less (you can always add more later if you want). This was the first meal I've encountered with separate pouches inside (for roasted peanuts and peanut butter). These are added before the boiling water, so it's no big deal, and the peanuts stayed crunchy until the end. At almost 1000 calories per package, this meal excels at providing the most bang for the buck!

Tastes great! - At first...

At first bite I was very impressed by this product. I mean this dish was t-a-s-t-y. But as I continued to eat it, it became less and less tasty until I could barely choke down the remainder in my bowl. Since I was merely testing this product for a future long distance hike (the PCT), I was planning to eat half the bag and have the rest for lunch the next day. This meal made me so queasy however, that the thought of eating another serving of it literally made me gag. Though it tasted amazingly good at first, this particular product left me feeling nauseated for several hours after eating. Like the previous reviewer, it could be perfect for you. I would suggest trying one out before buying in a larger quantity however. I also agree that you should add slightly less water than suggested. Mine was a little soupy when prepared as directed.

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Always a good idea to experiment with your food choices, freeze dried or otherwise, before you commit to loading up on it for a trip.

Like eating in a Thai restaurant.
By Backpacking RonVerified Reviewer from Baltimore, Maryland USA on 1/23/2007
Pros:
Easy to mix and fix, Tasty
Best Uses:
Mealtime in the boonies

The first time I had this in the backwoods, I remembered having Pad Thai in Palm Desert, CA. Simple to fix and mix. Spiced well. Use slightly less hot water than what is on the instructions.
