No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I was really excited to get this little compass, because I get lost EVERYWHERE. Sadly, though, the compass didn't work. It just wobbled around aimlessly -- luckily I checked it before I needed it! I returned it and got the Suunto one instead, which works great.
