Great alternative to a $200 watch that tells temperature and direction.
The Suunto replaced my Highgear keychain compass. This one seems a bit more reliable than the Highgear, though don't rely on either for any serious hiking. The thermometer seems to be of limited use, since most of the time this item would be on a keychain, which would be in your pocket. So it would measure not ambient temperature, but your body heat, unless you hold it out for a while. The small measuring edge is only 1 3/4" long, so it is useful primarily for working with maps. The wind chill factor chart on the back is only good for curiosity, for how is one supposed to make use of this information without another instrument for measuring wind speed? I would recommend this for anyone who wants a small compass on the keychain.

Every home should have an emergency pack, which should include a compass. This little model is perfect for the job.
