No, I would not recommend this to a friend
While this case is strong and offers good protection to your eTrex unit, there are a few negatives. The first is that it feels a lot bigger than it needs to be. The eTrex is only about 2.25 inches wide, this case is 3.25. If you are looking for a slim, sleek case to clip on your pack, you may want to keep looking. The second drawback is that it take two hands, a pry bar and a small gorilla to extract the unit. It protects, but makes it a bit cumbersome to use the device. Finally, the metal clip, while strong, offers little flexibility in how you attach the case to your gear.
