So - while it's pretty cool that this is 7 tools in one -- as a very practical matter - they aren't that great. Depending on what you're doing - the flashlight is not that bright, plus the light itself is quite small. I'm planning on buying a headlamp so I get a more consistent light and don't have to hold it. The mirror is too small to see yourself in. Not sure the thermometer or compass work. Cool idea, pity it does not work. Would not buy this again.
For use as a back up to his GPS system while out in the woods when the canopy is heavy and you can't get a signal from the GPS PLUS the PLUSSES
So far I have only seen it it was a gift for my son for Xmas. But he liked it, we will try it out this spring.
I brought this up washington last winter during January and because I wanted to see what temperature it was at the top, but it turned out to be completely useless beacause it was reading 42 degrees. Even though it worked mainly in warmer weather I wouldn't get this if your are at all serious about hiking.
First, it's full of surprizes. Didn't expect the storage compartment - but it is too small to fit a Sony Memory Stick and I can't imagine it fitting a waterproof safety match (another reviewed thought it could several). LED must be pressed to be on -- defeats its purpose -- I'll bring a real LED torch. Compass is no surprise -- haven't tested it in freezing conditions yet -- but it's easy to read even without my glasses. Temperature gauge casing prevents easy reading. Whistle just too soft to carry. Gave it to one of my kids, told both to walk in woods and could here it. Gimics? No -- disappointed in how difficult it is to get the mirror on one side and the magnifying glass on the other to pop out. Not possible even with thin gloves and don't see it happening if hands are cold.
It seems that High Gear puts a lot a thought into the design of their products. I own one of their watches. The Adventure Plus 7-in-1 Multi-Tool is no exception. Its design is excellent as is the choice of tools. There is no such thing as an "all-in-one" tool for everything. A lot of multi-tools are bulky and heavy, but the Adventure Plus is light and compact. We all have to choose the multi-tools that suit our circumstances and I would recommend this one enthusiastically. It has become an indispensable part of my daily travels: in the house, around town and in the bush. And the temperature conversion to Celsius as well as the hidden storage compartment for a few emergency matches was a nice surprize. This tool has become a valuable companion to me. Thanks again, HIGH GEAR!
