No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Durable and inexepensive. However, this is not a great signal light in that it is not really unidirectional (there is a large "blind" area when stable). It is NOT a strobe light and merely has a constant-on incandescent bulb that relies on movement to cause a "twinkling" effect. I wouldn't rely on this on land to signal effectively. May be a bit better on water. I think I will try the C-strobe model.
