I bought this item from EMS years and years ago. I think I used it on a picnic date with my wife 16 or 17 years ago.
As a rule, I didn't take it camping -- extra weight, open flame, whatever. It was more a picnic kind of thing.
However, the past couple of years, I have been camping with my young son in a lean-to, and this item is perfect. Puts out a surprising amount of warm, cheery light, and each candle lasts for 9 or 10 hours (we used it as a "night-light" this last time).
Well worth purchasing. Highly recommended (unless you are inside a tent -- I don't like the combo of open flames/heat and synthetic fabric). The company that makes it also makes an accessory that puts an LED light in the base -- worth tracking down, buying, and installing (very simple installation), since the lantern then gives you 2 light sources (the light from the flame, plus the light that beams straight down from the bottom, which is not hot (ie, I would use it in my tent))).
Just a great addition to my gear. camping, backpacking or power outage.

Love camping but hate being cold? This candle lantern seriously heats up your tent. Hang it from the top (not too close to melt the tent though!) and let it dry out and heat up your tent for a little while before you go to sleep (maybe 15 minutes?) and viola! Seriously, we pass this around from tent to tent as everyone goes to bed. It's awesome.

Because it burns off moisture it makes the tent dryer.
Never leave unattended.
Hang fron the highest part of the tent 6 to 8 ins away from the roof

I really like this product. It small and light, so i take it "just in case" for day trips. And use it when camping. It does put out some heat, and burned my finger last summer while camping. puts out a good amount of light for a small candle, and lasts a long time.
