This thing rocks. My first experience with the lantern was a 3 day float/camping trip from NY Lock 13 to NY Lock 7. It proved itself to me. It not only lit the way to the "nature walk" but also keep those late night gin rummy games well lit. Two thumbs up..
The housing is pretty cheap feeling for a[$] item. The light output is very weak unless you plug in for a full charge. If the charge is drained and you are relying on cranking for light power... don't plan to play cards or read comfortably. The idea is excellent and I'm sure the next generation model will be a huge improvement.
It's light. It's compact. And the light output is pretty good for something this size. I had no problems with it on any level other than a little water got into the light casing and it never recovered. The two metal bars on either side of the light rusted over within a couple of days, the glass was fogged, and the moisture eventually killed the unit. For all of the effort that went into making this a camper's ideal lamp, the designers should have given some consideration to adding a couple of seals. This lamp was only exposed to wet (light) conditions for a few minutes, and it couldn't hack it.
Great for longer camping trips, and very bright given its small size. We wound it up for a few minutes after dinner and it was good until bedtime. I love not being dependent on tons of batteries for light. It's one more little way to go green.
