I am an avid mountineer in Alaska, and this is the choice of guides and the envy of those who don't have it. If my buddy doesn't have this, I will trade with them so they can save my life with it, and I can use his/her slower less effective beacon to maybe save theirs.
I use the transceiver for backcountry snowboarding. The case it comes with fits nice against the body and isn't really noticable. When switching to search mode the transceiver is extremely easy to use to where i can have a novice up to speed extremely quickly.
It is also very accurate and the directional arrows and distance make it a no-brainer in an event of a search.
