I have a number of these and use them frequently. In summer: if you start with a Nalgene filled with heavily iced water, you will still have a cold drink even at the end of a pretty long, hot, humid day. In winter: not nearly as good at temperature retention as a thermos, but fill your nalgene with boiling tea or gatorade at the start of the day, and you will still have lukewarm fluid by the end.
Velcro strap works well.
FWIW, my experience is that these work better than the comparable products from other manufacturers, particularly for the price.

Fits a 32oz Nalgene perfectly. Necessary for winter backpacking. Significantly delays time to freezing, esp if Nalgene is put in upside down.

I purchased the water bottle and holder to go together, they were both 32oz, and the bottle would not fit in the holder~ It was too short! [...] Ginny Meyer

I bought one of these about a month ago. It's fantastic. I strap it to the deck rigging of my Kayak. Even in the sun, my water stays cool. After my wife saw how well it worked, she had to have one too.

I went on a backpacking trip in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks over my spring break. Not having a Bottle insulator made things a little more difficult in making sure that my water did not freeze. I quickly realized that I needed a H20 Cooler. I used this product for the first time, the last weekend of March at Tuckerman's Ravine. It certainly did its job and I am happy with the product.
"Cooler" keeps water from freezing

Pros:
Retains temperature well, Unbreakable, Unzips easily in extreme
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Hiking
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
It keeps hot water from freezing over a day of hiking in snow with temperatures in single digits. It can be fastened to a pack and opened with one hand. It is not too difficult to put the bottle back in and zip it closed with one hand, even with mittens on.
It doesn't make cold things warm.

Water still freezes in it, maybe it'll keep with boiling water next time.

It does what it should. My water did not freeze and my warm drinks stayed warm. Bottles fit well inside.
