I just finished a thru-hike of the AT and the miniworks held up through the whole trip. This filter is not light but it's durable, easy to use, easy to clean and produces clean, safe water every time. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Light weight, fit into my pack with no problem. Took a little longer then I thought to filter the water, but it did a great job filtering some pretty nasty water and it tasted great. It came in very handy on a few of my backpacking trips where it would've been impossible to carry enough water for the whole trip. I also camp in the wilderness and it saves me time, where I would normaly have to boil or distill water to drink. Pluss, you never know when you'll be stuck in a survival situation where this little gadget could save your life.

Good tasting water

My wife and I used it in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness of Minnesota. The filter conveniently attaches to a nalgene water bottle. Pumping is easy. The water was sparkling clear and tasted great. Cleaning and drying the filter and hose after the trip was a chore, but not too much work compared to what one would expect from all that must be done for a camping trip.

Good Value

This is a good product - but it is not super-light nor so compact as to be easily packed or hung from something. The mesh bag supplied is too small to get the assembly in and out of easily, and the suggested arrangement to wrap the pick-up hose and float foam around the canister, then place the assembly in the bag, is not very workable. But the price for it's basic function along with the build quality and essential utility are strong central features.

I bought this filter last week for a weekend hiking/camping trip with my buddy. I mentioned to him that it was a little bulky and not very light. He commented that it weighed as much (or a little less) than a full Nalgene bottle.
And it was worth every ounce.
This past weekend was hot here in PA...very hot.
We each packed in one Nalgene bottle of water. We usually carry at least two. I brought an empty one as well. We drank all of the water by the time we got to our camping spot. We filled our bottles up so many times, I lost count. The freedom to use water to clean as well as cook and drink was wonderful.
This was more than worth its weight.

At one point, it did leak a little as I was pumping. But I simply slowed down a bit and pumped in a steady rhythm and it stopped.

This unit is well built, easy to field maintain (no tools required) and comes with its own filter cleaning pad and storage case. There are smaller units, but I find this small enough.

Great filter, easy to clean and pumps good. If water has lots of silt it may become clogged and need a scrub. Major plus is ablity to clean it in the field.

Used many hours
By homer from york pa on 3/6/2007
Pros:
Easy to clean, Easy to pump, Good filtration, Lightweight
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Hiking
Describe Yourself:
Avid Adventurer

I used this filter to provide clean water for up to 30 people and to provide water for a medical clinic in the outbacks of Guatemala. One day I filtered over 30 gallons. As long as the ceramic element was cleaned perodically the filter pumped easy. The filter is easy to use and to teach others how to use. No one on our trip got sick. The water we filtered was obviously polluted. The filter made it taste fine. The filter comes apart easily and most of its components can be boiled. It screws directly onto a [...] bottle.

Easy to use

Pros:
Easy to clean, Easy to pump, Good filtration, Lightweight, Low maintenance
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Hiking

Although I only used this filter over a two week hike I can say so far it has been great. This sturdy, easy to use filter produced tasty water quickly and easily. I was happy too that it is lightweight and good looking in red and smokey black.
Do remember to clean the ceramic filter, things grind to a halt if you don't. It is easy to clean and all the parts slip out simply and logically so there is no struggle involved.
Love my water filter !

Great product. The best filter I could find for this price. The simplicity of the design makes for easy use. Also, all moveable parts can be taken apart and fixed easily on the trail. Ceramic filter lasts forever! And cleans quickly. One of the best buys I've gotten in a long time.
