You won't find a faster recreational tandem for the price. Pay the extra for the rudder. It's worth it for great tracking and surprising maneuverability. Not a great boat if you want to haul a lot of gear, but it'll get you there fast and with minimal effort. Still, my son and I have no trouble finding space for a small cooler, fishing poles, tackle box and net.
I am not sure why this boat received some poor reviews. I am a pretty experienced paddler in a wide range of boats. For what this boat was obviously designed for, it's really good. It's properly quick, and stable, despite what some of the other reviews say. You can't compare it to other types of boats and then give it a poor review in that light, I mean c'mon folks! Bottom Line, it's comfy, quick, stable and light and tracks fine if you know what you are doing.

I've had the T145 for 3 seasons now. It was a good tandem given the limited number of tandems on the market then and with the detachable child seat it was the best balance between comfort, price, weight and capacity for families that want to paddle together. The trade off with this model however is that though it is lighter than most others, making it easier to put on top of the car, the weight capacity is rated 400 lbs. But my experience is once you get to around 325-350 lbs it starts to get unstable, though 2 people with combined weight of less than 300 complained that it was tippy. If your purchasing criteria is the same as mine I would recommend the 135T instead which weights only 4 more lbs but adds another 100 lbs weight capacity.

I use this kayak when I'm with the wife, or want to take two small dogs 25-35 lbs, or both, on quiet waters when I don't want a challenge. I am used to longer narrow fiberglass kayaks, so I find this one to be extremely comfortable, very stable on the types of water I paddle on and the cup holders really do come in handy.
What I don't like about it is its weight if you're alone and have to carry it to the water or get it on and off a car by yourself.
Also compared to my narrow fiberglass kayak, it's slow and clunky, but thats the trade off in boats.
The long, narrow light ones in fiberglass or kevlar are fast & tippy.
This has been a nice boat. A lot of tandems weigh more and are difficult to load. We've had it several seasons and have been pretty happy with it, no complaints. It's a long boat, so it doesn't handle like and 8'er, but has been great for paddling a small child around.
very disappointed with the performance of this boat, not stable with 2 adults. 1 adult and child you have some control but still very tippy..buy a canoe and have more fun with your family

The 145T is a well made fun to paddle kayak. A really cool feature is the shifting of the fore seat to center for solo kayaking. In this position it handles like a real solo and not a converted double. I am on my 4th season with this kayak and have been very pleased. One feature I don't have but would like is a rudder. I had to comment so new kayakers don't pass this one up.
