I have several AT bindings, some of them older Fritschis. This one is a great performer. I considered lighter bindings, but I love the dependability of the Fritschis. It is worth the extra weight for the step in conveniance.

These are the toughest AT bindings on the market. (Marker's are not available yet, so don't have comparison) Very solid construction, but light compared to regular Alpine bindings. I've taken these over the triple jumps at Area 51 in Keystone and skied bumps in bounds. They were good in the powder and the windblown crust on Flat Top in RMNP.
They'd be perfect if they were lighter, but then they'd cost 2-10x.

Cons:
Flimsy, Releases to touring mode
Best Uses:
Gentle rolling terrain, Recreational
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I have the older version Freeride and I have been sent hurdling down very dangerous slopes when the binding released into touring mode. When the ski is flexed the piece that holds it in alpine mode pushes past the clip that holds it in place. Black Diamond denies the problem is a design flaw saying the binding is not made for more extreme terrain. Be careful if you are a larger skier and you ski aggressive.
