I switched to the BD O1 from G3 Targa bindings. The BD is far better for aggressive sking in bounds.... far more responsive. It is somewhat heavier, but it also is a nice set up for day trips in the back country.
Great bindings. Fluid, laterally stiff, downhill performance, with free pivoting efficiency for skinning. My first day on them was skinning around lolo pass and the comfort and balance during climbing was great. Saves energy without compermising the stringth and active controlt to push the descent. Very robust design with a lockdown that is easily engaged and disengaged with a pole tip. Cliff tested and ready to roll. Love them!
With the introduction of these and the G3 Ascents, there is really no reason to use any other tele binding, period. The difference in climbing ease (and therefore speed) is night and day compared to the 'older' style.
I was going to wait until next year to pick up a pair but was basically forced to get these. Although I would have liked to see what improvements were made next season before buying, I am pretty impressed with the 01s. They are burly and stiff and I doubt they will fail. The ONLY qualm I have at this point is the build-up of snow (under certain warmer and deeper conditions) under the plate that makes the transition back into ski mode difficult
These bindings are awesome! I haven't taken them backcountry yet but I think they will only get better! They have quite a bit of stiffness to them (with the mid-stiff cartridges) vs. my old Cobra bindings which took some getting used to but now they are incredible! I just feel like whatever I'm putting into the ski is getting there with this binding! Worth the extra money!
