You should install the leash so that the belly of the leash wire is across the boot and not hanging to the outside of the ski. Hanging to the outside invites, at last to some extent the possibility of the leash hanging up on some seen or unseen obstruction. This really is common to all leashes. Wire ones in particular have a tendency to bow out more.
The clip is very easy to use even with gloves.
Leashes with the plastic clips I have found have a tendency to break off or come unclipped

Since you need 'em at the resorts I would go with these, they are the best. Metal for durablity and sized well to open with gloves on for convience.
