This is a pretty good bag. Very light and not too expensive. The biggest issue I had was being cold when it was around 25-30 outside and it getting wet and absorbing water very easily. overall not bad, but not a winter bag at all. Great for backpacking because of the weight.

Wife used this bag in Canadian Rockies and was happy. She is usually cold and was very comfortable in high 20s to mid 30s weather. True, we didn't test whether it could go lower than that, but I still think that bag is good. It is very light and compresses well. Overall, at that price, there isn't a better bag on the market, and this is coming from someone that is generally skeptical of EMS products (I've brought a few back). Certainly this bag is as good, if not better, than my GoLite bag which was over $100 more.

I have used this bag minimally so far, however it has performed as I hoped. Bag is light and very compressible, keeps me warm (I am warm bodied already) in a variety of overnight situations, and seems to deal with water well. A good buy for someone looking for a basic bag at a reasonable price.

Seems like a very well designed bag, I like it EXCEPT it just is NOT big enough to move around for a 6 ft man
That makes it a no go and return item
A few inches more in the width of the bag everywhere would have been a bit better even if it came with more weight or packing difficulty

EMS was great in that they gave me a $50 credit from an old EMS 20 bag that lost its loft and had some shell tears in it. The $50 credit went to a new bag and I appreciate EMS sticking to their 100% satisfaction guarantee...great company.
However, this Mountain Lite 20 bag is a bit too "tight" for a 6 foot guy like me. I am not a big guy, around 180lbs and thin, but I like to roll a bit even in a bag and this was just way to tight in the neck, shoulders, hips, etc. Great packability, great price on a down bag, great customer service, but way too small of a bag for comfort. I look forward to getting the North Face BluKazoo as it measured a big wider, bigger in on the website.

After living above the Arctic Circle for three years I have grown to appreciate good gear and especially good sleeping bags. I now live in Pennsylvania and no longer have a need for my my -20 bag. I wanted to get a 20 degree lightweight bag and found a great deal at EMS on this bag plus i had a gift card so I went for it. It was light and packed down super small and was inexpensive. Buying this bag however turned out to be a big mistake as the bag did not keep me warm. I have a North face 20 degree synthetic that is over 20 years old that keeps me warmer than this bag. I suffered through several winter backpacking trips before purchasing a 15 degree Western Mountaineering Badger sleeping Bag. I placed these two bags side by side (I know there is a 5 degree difference and 8 ounces). The Mountain light looked like a deflated inner tube next to the Western Mountaineering Badger and its 6 inches of loft. The price was more than double but trust me it is well worth it if you value your warmth while sleeping. All is not lost as I will keep it for my wife to use as she never ventures out when it gets cold anyway.

Went on my first backpacking trip in the high peaks of the Adirondacks and was very concerned about carrying a sleeping bag that would keep me warm, yet be lightweight and compact. This bag was perfect...absolutely loved it. The temp got down in the low 30's at night and I never got cold...no extra clothing needed to keep warm and that says alot from someone who is always cold. Very easy to pack and comes with a compression sack that compresses the bag down to about football size! I would highly recommend this bag.

I bought this as my primary bag for the NH, White Mountains last summer (May-Oct. 07), my bag for the Vermont Long Trail (early fall 07) and used it for about 40 nights. It was a replacement for a well used 30 degree synthetic bag. I found this bag comfortable only at temps above 40 degrees in sheltered, dry conditions. Nights in open sided shelters at 3500 feet, with clouds and breezes resulted in cold nights and a clammy bag in the morning. Nights in the 30s required more layers. This bag has the lightest fill weight of any 20 degree bag I can find but not the lightest pack weight. The bag has little loft and the down tends to clump which creates cold spots especially in the neck and shoulder area. There is snag resistant fabric along the zipper but it still tends to snag easily on the loose soft inner shell, very frustrating in the dark. Had no problems with the hood but needed a hat in the low 30s. Foot box was great, no socks required!!
Conclusions: Every user is differend and every night on the trail is differedt but I now believe that it takes more than 13 or 14 ounces of 725 down to make a comfortable 20 degree bag. This would make a decent, 40 degree bag for occasional use in sheltered conditions. It’s my fault for not paying more attention to the specs and buying this bag in the first place. I should have done more research. My next buy will be a 2lb., 20 degree bag with 16 to 19 ounces of 850 down in a more water repellant fabric. The cost will be higher but it’s worth it to me for a warm comfortable bed -- every night!

GOOD POINTS...

I have to admit that this bag is the best packing bag I'd ever owned. Extremely light and compresion sack works like a charm.

BAD POINTS(longer then good...)

1. Every single time I use it no matter where-even in my own bed!-a conciderable amount of feathers leak out all over-kind of anoying cleaning them out of tent.

2. Don't depend on the hood for cold weather. Even when you tighten the chord it just dosen't fit around your head like other bags + it dosen't have nearly enough down.

3. The rating for temp. is more like 40 degrees then 20! I've slept in 35 degree weather with long johns on and its freezing-a fleece blanket would do just as good. Besides I was sleeping next to others in a very good tent!

4. The top has way more down, even when new, then the bottom. There should, in a good bag, be equal amounts of loft in all parts-exspecially the bottom!

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:First of all…we are sorry to hear you are disappointed with your EMS sleeping bag, and this is exactly why we have our Satisfaction Guarantee. We want you to feel confident about shopping with us and we'll take care of you if your gear fails to meet your expectations. That said with regard to your concerns…anything down filled will at times shed feathers, however your situation sounds extreme. We haven’t had any issues with our shell fabric containing its feathery contents so with this concern alone we’d suggest returning or exchanging the bag with us as it appears to be defective. The hoods on our bags are sculpted to fit snugly and comfortably and are not dissimilar in design to the other top brands on the market. While sleeping bag ratings are somewhat relative and subject to several factors we strictly follow industry standards when testing our own ratings to ensure consistency and comfort. We understand the bag isn’t keeping you warm and would attribute that to it rapidly losing feathers, which as stated above is a defect in your bag. Lastly…your comment related to the distribution of down in a ‘good’ sleeping bag is in error…all quality sleeping bags regardless of brand, fill the tops of bags with more insulation whether it’s down or synthetic, than the bottom portion. This is done because the bottom of the bag is not only compressed from body weight rendering the fill of the bag less capable of trapping heat…but also because, and more importantly…it is assumed folks are using sleeping pads. Whether your pad is self inflatable or simply a closed cell foam matt…it insulates your body and bag from the ground allowing the use of more fill for the top of the bag, where it is alone in its fight to keep you warm. Please let us know if we can be of assistance in any way…888.463.6367.

First night was in a snow cave - no bivvy or liner. Perfect. Warm. Plenty of room for shoulders -- (44" chest). Lightweight, packable and toasty. I've waited 40 years to get a down bag - I got a winner.

I haven't really gotten to take this bag camping yet, it is winter and there is about 3 inches of snow on the ground, but I slept in this bad throughout finals week rather than have to make my bed evey morning (go to a military academy) and I can't be happier with it. Its warm, stows easily, compact, and comfortable, count ask for more. Can't wait to take it backpacking in the spring.

Bought this bag when I was shopping for a good small/light down bag for a multitude of uses around upstate New York and the rest of the Northeast. Of the comparable bags I looked at, this one's price was the lowest. Have used it in lean-to's, tents, cars, even friends' houses, and it has worked well every time. I wanted a down bag so it would pack down well, and this bag is perfect. I can easily pack it in for any sort of trip - hiking, camping, backpacking, even heading to the city to visit friends or home for time off from school. Zip it up and tighten the drawstrings and you're good to go in 40, 30, 20, 10 degree weather, or unzip it a little and you'll be fine in 50, 60, or even when sleeping in a heated house. Great overall bag, Great value. If you're not doing cold-weather activities, you might check out the Mountain Light 40 degrees.

I do mostly day hikes, but this bag served me well on a recent extended backpacking trip. It's not the absolute lightest or most compact one out there, but it's still light and small for a 20 degree bag and was a good value.

Seems true to the the temperature rating - I had to unzip in 30 degree weather. The foot of the bag remained warm when it became damp from condensation. The stuff sack is adequately sized -absolutely no problem stuffing it in there.

NO LEFT ZIP... any sleeping bag manufacturer with a respectable reputation in the industry makes a option of LEFT ZIP!!! Heck the majority of us outdoor maniacs are right handed.

Becuase of this simple fact I would not recommend... all my friends have left zip bags!
Also, it misses it's temprature range by a bit.

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Our bags do come in Left and Right zip. The regular length bag comes in right zip while the Long and Woman's version bag come in Left zip. More and more manufacturers are making sleeping bags this way. The side of the bag the zipper is on has little to do with being right or left handed. The real reason sleeping bags come in left and right zip has to do with the ability to zip two bags together without having the hood of one bag hang in someone's face. With regard to temperature...sleeping bag ratings are relative to several conditions. Whether you are sleeping on a pad – and how thick?- or in a tent? - to your overall body chemistry. Some folks sleep warmer than others. Our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports® purchase.
