I used these on a trip to Mt Charleston recently, and they did their job extremely well, and when they were lashed to my pack they went unnoticed, very light shoes. I will say that I had a bit of trouble on very steep switchbacks with them (when one foot is significantly lower than the other), but that was probably more just me getting used to them. (I usually just use crampons) Overall a great buy!
I'm 5'9" 160lbs. I found these to work well in 10" of fresh powder off trail / up and down steep terrain. Traction is excellent due to the frame design.
The heel lifters are a leg saver. Though, I wish the heel lifters had a tab that was easy to grab. The bindings were very secure. I love the decking material and did not have any problems, (but I'm a little afraid of punctures off trail only - so far so good though). The Orange powder coat finish looks great but have scratched already in a few areas, mainly due to the traction teeth of the frame and me hitting one shoe against the other while walking - OOPS. A silver color would make scratches / chips less visible.
I have only used these for one weekend in the Adirondacks off trail and carrying supplies to and from my cabin.
Overall I feel these snowshoes are excellent and would recommend them to others.
Nice thin footprint, does not require you to change your natural stride. floats well in 2ft + of soft snow. seems well constructed.
Not as much flotation as I expected, but then again I have not been snow-shoeing since I was a little kid.
WOW! What a tank of a snowshoe. I had a hard time deciding whether to buy these or the Tubbs Mountaineer and thanks to the EMS staff I bought these. I was skeptical of the bindings at first but the rubber stays loose in all temperatures and the big tabs at the end make entry and exit with gloves possible. I love the heel riser and the crampons built into the frame. My first romp I wanted to see what they had in them and headed straight for the hills. 45 degree incline with no problem... the heel riser makes it so easy. Back down the same incline they slid a bit then you feel them dig right in. Traversing on that incline wasn't a issue either. These things stick where you plant them. I found them super easy to walk in as well. Also VERY light weight. I couldn't find any fault with these and would buy them again in a heart beat. I'd use these anywhere.
