Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
since i didn't intend to use it as a laptop bag, the stiffness of the padding was the only real comfort setback, however, padding is good no matter what.
the 'leather' straps also fray after using them, the fabric layer fibers come out and need to be trimmed.
the strap was extra long for me, i ended up knotting it at the bottom to make it fit as a messenger bag.

Very nice bag. Well made, nice retro styling. I only gave it a 3 because it had no waist strap for being a messenger bag and it is cumbersome to get into because of the buckels.
