Great for a college kid!
This gear bag is an evolution of North Face's original Base Camp Duffel, one of which we are still using 20 years later. It used to come in one size... BIG; now you can get three different sizes. We use the largest of the three to pack our ocean kayaking kits in. Everything but the paddles fits in it whether wet or dry. Keeps a lot of gear organized and tidy and keeps the vehicle clean on the way home.
The one change that is not necessarily a good is that the zipper now makes a "U" around the top instead of a straight end-to-end style. The end-to-end zipper was better and allowed you to fit your loaded backpack into the bag for more secure traveling. The current style limits the size of what you can fit in the bag. Not a major issue.
All-in-all, this is a great, bomb-proof bag to load a lot of gear into.
This was the most I've ever paid for a duffle bag and I was a little worried that I would not get the value from it. I now have owned this bag for 4 years and use it as a camp bag, wearing it on my back as a pack for short trips. I also use it as a travel bag (7 trips requiring checking it) having sent it through the best testing grounds available...the baggage handlers at the airport.
There are no tears or frays, the bag has sat out in the rain and snow with no issues. I love it and it is the easiest bag to identify with the logo on the end. If you're reading this you are interested...now just buy it and start enjoying it. I really think that I'll have this forever.
