Good bag. Needs a way to carry a waterbottle, a strap so you can wear it like Indiana Jones bag, pockets on outside to hold cell phone, compass, or multi-tool.

I bought this to replace a "man bag" (God I hate that term!) that I bought from [...] 10 years ago that was finally wearing out. [...] discontinued that one, a mini-backpack type affair, with just scads of pockets, netting, etc. to keep all my stuff quite well organized. The other reviews of this product I read lead me to believe that the Timbuk2 Metro Bag would be a good replacement. It wasn't. The storage pockets are all way too small to be useful for anything practical. Which leaves only the one "large" (in quotes because it's still quite small; large only relative to the other tiny pockets!) central undivided pocket. Awful. I used it for one day, to see if it would work, and was very disappointed. Plus, you have to unbuckle it constantly to get anything out of any pocket. How about one or two roomy outside pockets for keys, wallet, cell phone, glasses? Don't bother with this one unless you don't really have very much to carry. [...]

I will travel to Europe next month, and I will take this bag instead of my old camera bag. I think your description of this bag accurately fits the item: "the perfect personal tote and shoulder bag for travel and urban adventures". I was slightly bothered by the reviewers using this bag as a purse, but then I still decided to buy it [...] I think the negative comment about the strap is unfair. I did slide one adjustor all the way down, so it has no way to slip any further, then I used the buckle to adjust the strap length. Another reviewer didn't like noisy Velcro, but I like it, even though I didn't use the bag yet. Good design. I would like to have the zippered camera compartment padded at least on one side.

The best bag ever
By CVerified Purchaser from New Jersey on 4/13/2007
Describe Yourself:
Casual/ Recreational
Pros:
Adjustable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Lots of Storage, Rugged
Best Uses:
My main purse
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love love love this bag! I am a purse "nut" and shopped on line for months before finding this one, and boy am I glad I did. I find it hard to change to a dressier bag when I have to! In fact, I've even tied a scarf on it to "jazz" it up a little when the outfit called for a dressier bag! I just wish it was available in a bronze color!!!

Great for what it is
By RWVerified Purchaser from NYC on 1/11/2007
Pros:
Adjustable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Rugged, Stylish
Cons:
No outside pockets
Best Uses:
Around town, City Bikes, Commuting, Field bag
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This bag is small..but not so tiny that it's not useful. I would not recommend as a bag for school, laptops, or work. With that being said, the Metro bag is great for what it is...a bag for hanging out around town.

makes a good purse
By paulineVerified Reviewer from Andover,MA on 1/3/2007
Pros:
Adjustable, Comfortable, Rugged
Cons:
This thing is tiny, Way too small
Best Uses:
Would make a good purse

Nice design, but this is way too small to use for anything other than a purse. I can fit a small (5X7)notebook. A regular sized 8 1/2 X 11inch notebook is an awkward fit. My camera, a small digital w/zoom fits, but it doesn't leave much room for anything else. a midget sized water bottle, maybe will fit. Nice pockets to organize all of the detritus that can accumulate at the bottom of your purse!

awesome purse!
By Sarah the Purse KillerVerified Purchaser from Northern NJ on 12/17/2006
Pros:
Adjustable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Lots of Storage, Rugged, Waterproof
Best Uses:
Commuting, Daily use, Purse

I kill purses. I was going through several purses a year at $20-$30 each. After doing some research, I got a Timbuk2 Metro Messenger last spring. It's looking a little beat up in places, but it's been abused for the 9 months I've had it and it is still in great shape. It's got all the features I need and some I didn't know I needed. :)

When I manage to kill this one, I will definitely replace it with another Timbuk2 bag!

I am a very big fan of Timbuk2. I discovered their products a couple months ago and have not been disappointed. I'm impressed by their quality and design. I feel organized and ready for anything!

The only real drawback is the price. [...]

Thanks EMS and Timbuk2!

Best little bag around!
By CorennaVerified Reviewer from Maine on 11/2/2006
Pros:
Durable, Lightweight, Well Constructed

I just returned from a medical missions trip to Peru and used this bag everyday! It is lightweight, durable, has lots of little compartments to keep things seperated and holds a good amount of supplies. Now that I am home I use it for a day bag, a diaper bag, an anything and everything bag. This is the best little bag around!

LOVE THIS BAG!
By Cathy the Caregiver from New Jersey on 10/12/2006

Everyday Bag

This is now my favorite everyday bag of all time! It is the only thing in my life that is always organized! I love it!

great bag - but the strap adjustor slips
By PJ bonesVerified Reviewer from cambridge, ma on 10/10/2006
Pros:
Durable, Lightweight
Cons:
Poor Ergonomics, Poor strap hold

I like the product - colors are great and it's a great size. It's very durable, but the plastic piece on the strap (that you use to adjust the length of the strap) slips easily so that you're walking down the street and the bag falls down as the strap is opened up to it's longest length. the strap buckle is also right at the breastbone and is uncomfortable.

Love this bag!
By AliVerified Reviewer from Worthington, OH on 10/5/2006
Pros:
Durable, Well Constructed
Best Uses:
Everyday handbag

Great bag for an active person. I bought it in boring black so that it will look clean for ages, and be more subtle on days when I have to look "professional." I like the adjustable shoulder strap, the padded handle, the big opening, the waterproof material. My only complaint is that the interior cell phone pocket is behind the pen holder pockets -- the pens get in the way when I reach for my phone.

Great day bad
By the saraVerified Reviewer from philly on 10/5/2006
Pros:
Durable, Well Constructed
Best Uses:
Day Bag, Outdoors

This smaller bag is great for daily use. I pack it and bring it along almost every day for work and play!

Perfect for day to day.
By JayVerified Reviewer from Western MA on 10/4/2006
Pros:
Durable, Lightweight, Well Constructed
Best Uses:
Just like the name

The only thing missing was a clip to secure keys which was easily remedied by clipping a carribener (sp) to the end loop. Otherwise this has been a perfect everyday bag.

For Men who wouldn't carry a handbag.
By MikeVerified Reviewer from Albany, New York area on 10/3/2006
Pros:
Durable, Well Constructed
Cons:
Heavy
Best Uses:
Male handbag, Shopping

Excellent product, very utilitarian and rugged constructed. Masculine looking, can be carried as a handbag. Would like to see it promoted as such and catch on. Little expensive.

I would buy this product again!

The perfect addition to our large Timbuk2 bag!
