Gear Usage:
Winter mountaineering
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Bad design when use with snow and ice, zipper comes appart and it freezes during the hike, making it hard to take the gaiters appart at the end of the trip.

I owned the previous design and they were good. I used them every day in the winter for 2 1/2 years and they finally wore out. When I threw them out they were still better than this design. These let snow in, they come unzipped, and I had the lace at the top rip already after only three weeks use.

Bad fit and bad design

I think the EMS designers really missed the mark [...]. The use of the bungie to keep tight at the calf is a serious flaw in the design and they just don't work well for people with big calfs and average size feet.

These gaiters looked promising and they should be OK for general hiking but do not use them with crampons. I tore mine the first time I used them - the outer fabric on the instep simply isn't robust enough. If you want more durable gaiters I suggest you spend $10 or so more and go for the OR ones with Cordura reinforced sides.
