When they were first put on over my hiking boots they added sufficient added traction to hike ice crusted snow. On steeper slopes they would slip out of place and occasionally off of the toe of the boot. Good for more level or gentle sloped hikes. Steep hikes should go with full cramp-ons, flat hikes could use yak-traks instead
I used these walking 5 blocks of icy streets and sidewalks to and from work multiple times a day and and they worked great. I never slipped once. I even took them on some longer recreational walks too and they worked just as well though after one long walk i felt the front rubber strap rubbing on my toes pretty well, but i think another layer of socks would help with that. Also on one longer walk one of the stablicers fell off my shoe, but they've not fallen off since. The trick may be in how you put them on. The rubber-like material they use is very strong but that makes they a bit difficult to wrap around your shoe as you put them on. Taking them off is a piece of cake though. The cleats wore down pretty well for me in the first month but that is likely because i was walking on concrete surfaces for part of that time (not entirely snow/ice). I think that if you were walking on all snow/ice they would last much longer.
These would be great for walking on icy walkways. However, the toe area is too narrow for boots, so they are only good for narrow-type shoes. As a result of narrow front, the stabilizers slip off my boots because they do not fit properly over the front of the boot. I ordered a pair of the more expensive stabilicers sold by [...] and found that the other type worked better for boots and were easier to get on and off the boot. If you are looking for something to slip over shoes, these would be very good. If you need something for boots, do not bother. If you need stabilicers for both shoes & boots, get the more expensive type that [...] sells.
great product. they stay on you foot (feet) snug.. they don't shift side to side. they are less clunky than the more expansive stabalicers.
Friends had suggested the more expensive Stabilicer product with Velcro straps front and back and twice the number of spikes...a product which I did not buy. I did wind up with the 'sport' version. The sport version has half the number of screw-like spikes which, like the big brother version, are easy to swap out with available replacements (90 pc pack) that simply screw in. Since I weigh (ahmm.. 200 pounds) my weight might have something to do with the success of this 'sport' product. Maybe lighter folks would need more spikes offered in the big-brother more expensive version? The point is, this 'sport' version snapped on my boots with authority.. front and back stretch rubber seemed to be glued to my boot(s). The additional Velcro strap that attaches to the back, through the rubber and around the ankle across the in-step might be over-kill as I never felt this product slip port or starboard. I'm going to try wearing them without the Velcro strap next time. I hiked on ice and snow the entire 10 miles of this test run... not once did I slip out, stubble (lazy foot drag) or fall due to this product. And, as importantly, did my stabelicers Sport fall off or need adjustment. From what I could observe, the 'Sport' version is harder to put on your boot then the more expensive version.. hard for me to judge.. but I believe it's worth the effort as the 'sport' version slips less. A note to the Manufacturer: go ahead and add as many spikes to the sport as you have on the more expensive version.
When I have these on, I don't have to worry about slipping on icy sidewalks when I walk the dog. I can stride right along. They're great and I have recommended them to many people. I do find the toe area too narrow for most sporting type shoes and boots.
I purchased them for dog walking and running. More durable than competing products. Surprisingly flexible for running. One con is they are so good at traction that when I hit the dry spots of pavement, it's a bit jarring and not springy. Overall they're great!
