Recommended by the NPS in the High Peaks ADK Region for back-country winter hiking when crampons were a bit overkill. Used Stabilicers to climb the top 4 of the winter 46'ers in Jan and Feb without a single miss-step, slip, or bobble. The ranger provided an extra set of long spikes in the event that I lost any, after 2 trips of 35 miles I only lost 2 spikes, but never lost my footing. I was very pleasantly surprised with Stabilicers. No more winter hikes without them in my pack!
My shoe size put me in an x-small but the heel cup was too tight to put my foot back all the way and then my toes fell off the front so I had to return and order a small size instead. (I have size 8 shoes).
I hike in all kinds of weather in the Northeast. These really help in spring and fall when snowshoes are too much, but hiking boots don't have enough traction.
They run small, my size 7 boots fit perfectly in the Women's Medium. My husband got the extra large, which were too small on his size 14 feet.
While everyone else was carefully picking their way along icy trails, I was marching right along, even looking for ice to walk on, I was so confident that I would not slip. I could go right up or down icy slopes no problem. It opens up the possiblity of certain hikes you otherwise would be reluctant to take when icy. They are small and light and easily carried in your pack for as needed use. I'll never go without them again
I bought them mostly for work close to home and on our lake. They have worked great for that. I haven't tried them yet in extreme conditions(steep rugged terrain) and will be interested to see if they stay on in those conditions. I've been extremely happy with them in the conditions I've used them.
Works best for improved traction on hard packed snow/ice when crampons are overkill but bare boots aren't enough.
These Stabilicers are something we carry with us on each hike in this wintertime. Even when we leave home and it is well above freezing, when we traverse the hiking trail, snow and ice could abound. These are comfortable, easy to put on and very effective.
After five miles of light hiking on mixed ice, rock and snow I lost 16 of 17 cleats - not exactly confidence inspiring. I decided to give them a second try, so I returned them to EMS for a new pair, hoping the quality issues were resolved. Two miles later and five less cleats, I've given up. My Kahtoola MicroSpikes are on their way...
Have had these for winters. Will not go on icy areas without them. Have had a few screws go missing, but it probably was because I did not retighten them for a while. This is the best winter safety product I have ever purchased for the price.
Stabilicers were to be used hiking on mountains in and around the Berkshires but have proved very useful on on local streets, walking the dog, after cars have turned snow on the streets into ice.
I have a pair myself and bought another as a gift for a friend. They make it possible to be outdoors in weather that otherwise would prevent hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing. They are great!
I walk my dog on icy rolling terrain and this product never even suggests a slip. The fit is snug and I feel very secure, where I saw others wearing only boots skip and fall. Last year I noticed land trust members wearing them on ice when regrettably I did not. No more slipping and sliding for me. I like them better than yak-traks which pop off of my boots. I am extremely well satisfied with this product.
Liked them alot for hiking on crusty snow and ice. However, the screws were almost all gone after about 5 miles on the trail. I replaced them because they worked well and once again the screws popped out. So now I am returning them. If they were designed more like track shoes and had something to screw into instead of just rubber these would be great!
I got these last December and tried them out sanding my driveway after an ice storm glazed it over. They were amazing, I could run on the ice and you really don't slide. That is the biggest thing to get used to is on ice you don't slide, your brain says expect to slide and the stablicers say no! Since then I've used them on 19 mile Brook trail and watched other members in my hiking party slip and fall all over the place while my girlfriend and I walked on and waited for them.
I've put about 50 miles on them including 10 going up Hancock the day before Christmas. Marched right up the steep inclines with no problems on the hard crusty snow. I've not had any studs fall off, and still have originals in.
I bought these for some winter hiking. After my first hike with these, i noticed 4 screws were missing. I bought replacement screws and tightened the remaining to make sure i wouldn't lose any. On my second winter hike, i lost a total of 8 screws. All had been checked prior to the hike and none were loose. I contacted the manufacturer and they stated there had been some production issues relating to screw depth in the soles. If you can wait to purchase these, do so (I was told this issue will be fixed). Otherwise you may run into the same issues I did. [...]
Four folks used new Stabilicers this past weekend in the White mountains. There was ice, snow over rocks and mud. All four lost 90% of the screws. The screws pulled out.
The ice stablizers made our trip more enjoyable. They were versatile enough to use on snow, ice, and small areas of rock.
This product can handle ballroom dancing on a sheet of ice. They are bulky and heavy which wears on you while working in the woods...feels like wearing lead boots. However, wearing them is beter than the alternative. Is there any way to make the base out of a material that is lighter weight. I also like the ability to replace the studs. I've been experimenting with old metal golf spikes and limiting the number of studs to specific areas of the sole.
Best winter hiking equipment I have ever bought. Works great on ice and a few inches of snow. Makes walking uphill on snow effortless.
Did well on the level - they will not take the place of crampons on vertical ice.
Stabilicers came recommended to me by my podiatrist. I feel very secure on the ice. I have a horse farm. The torrain is very unlevel. I especially feel secure when the snow covers the ice. This product gives me the security and safety thatI need. Thank you.
I do a lot of hiking. Stabilicers are perfect for days when there is a little snow (not deep enough for snowshoes), ice, or a "crusty" surface. Highly recommend them for anyone who likes to get outside in the winter.

Nothing else compares. I lead winter trips and have seen EVERYTHING from Yaktraks to you-name-it, and these are the best. They stay on and give you excellent traction on ice and snow.

They are great for light hiking. I have used mine for about 3 years and they are still in great condition. I use them daily during the winter months and am able to walk across sheer ice without slipping. I highly recommend this product.

Sub-zero weather, had to hike out 19 Mile Brook Trail on a broken ankle. Needed stability and grip. Flawless control kept me from making a bad situation much worse.
