I used this item two times, both times the walker traction slipped off my shoe. I caught it the first time but the second time I used it I lost the walker traction and could not find it. They worked well as long as I was not walking.

I do like the glow-in-the-dark color. I am unhappy with the fact that there is no strap to keep the item on the shoe. I lost one while walking my dog. I did find it, but it must have just slipped off. Having something to secure it to my shoe would have prevented it. Luckily I found it because it shows up in the dark! Thanks.

Not very durable
By DonaldVerified Purchaser from Brentwood on 1/21/2008
Pros:
Comfortable, Great Grip
Cons:
Slips off easily

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These generally perform well, but after a few uses the rubber breaks making them useless. They tend to slip off very easily in snow too.

I bought this less rugged version of the product for my niece who's 18 and very active. She lives on the top of a steep hill and when it snows/sleets it's pretty difficult to negotiate the sidewalk and hill without falling.

There are only 3 things I think could be improved about this product: First, note the size somewhere on the item itself; once it was out of its packaging, you can't tell if it's a S, M or L. And since I bought these for her parents too once everyone had them out of the package it was kind of impossible to tell whose was whose - and each one wears a different size from the other! Second, provide some type of cool holder so there's an easy way to store and carry them around between uses. Finally, advertise this better to the mainstream public, because I think this could be very helpful to people with mobility issues, not just very active people.

That's it!

I love these! I bought a pair for my brother for Christmas to wear ice fishing. I bought a pair for my husband to wear behind the snowblower and walking the dog and I got myself a pair. You can just slip them on over your shoes and feel confident that you will not slip and fall. You can safely drive in them. I slip them on when I go out the door to get the trash cans from the curb and I don't worry that I will fall on the ice. I wear them to walk around the neighborhood in the winter. The only drawback is that they can come off in heavy snow, but you can purchase them with a strap and then it is not a problem. The best thing about these is they fit over your snow boots as well as your tennis shoes and I even wear mine over my dress boots with a 2 inch chunky heel. I have recommended these to my friends.

I work as a Mail Carrier in the Boston area. I bought these after slipping and sliding on icy streets and sidewalks for a couple of weeks. I was very pleased with the grip/traction that these provided-- for the first two days. By the end of the second day two of the bands had broken. By the sixth day, I had to toss them because they were so damaged that I couldn't keep them on my feet. They would be much better for someone on mixed snow and ice as opposed to icy city streets.

I use Yaktrax to hike in the winter when crampons are overkill. Yaktrax are much more comfortable and easier to put on. I am on my second winter season with a pair and have actually broken one of the rubber parts but I could re-attach it the way it broke with a small tie-wrap! It's towards the side so it is not uncomfortable. They bring confidence to walking on packed snow and ice. Great product!

I bought one pair from the mgr. directly and they sold me the small size. I then bought medium which is much better. I use the small over old sneakers when I shovel our large driveway and I plan to use the medium on our redwood deck when I walk on it to retrieve info to file a weather report. The mfr. never should have recommended the small size. Too hard to put on. I'm 74, have two artificial hips, don't want to fall but I walk very well and I shovel a LOT, living in the foothills in northern Colorado.

Very easy to install with exceptional grip but not meant for working in the woods. Excellent product for walkers. The reveal of the yaktrax under the boot does not feel like walking on a boxspring. Wearing them gives me confidence.

Works wonders on improving traction
By WoodsmanVerified Reviewer from New Milford , CT on 2/28/2007

Easy To Put On And Adjust, Great Grip, Lightweight
Cons:
Not durable
Best Uses:
Alpine Routes, Frozen Lakes
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This product works wonders in improving traction on ice. All sense on instability is gone once you put them on. The only fault I see with them is that they do not last for very long (1 season at best). The rubber that runs through the coils inevitably snaps, but what can you expect when you are basically walking on rubber bands with springs on them. They are a good product, but you will end up buying more than one set of them.

This product has been great this winter for walking the dog. You do need to get used to the feel of them if you are speed walking, your stride does change some. THey were not very comfortable for running.

A good choice for mixed conditions

Pros:
Easy To Put On And Adjust, Lightweight
Cons:
Falls off on rugged trail
Best Uses:

I use these on rugged mountain trails were there is not enough ice for full crampons. They work well but will pop off sometimes. It would be possible to walk right out of one and go awhile before you noticed.

Yaktrax Are Fabulous!
By PegVerified Purchaser from Connecticut on 12/26/2006
Sizing:
Feels true to size
Pros:
Easy To Put On And Adjust, Great Gift, Great Grip, Lightweight, Versatile
Best Uses:
Any time it's slippery

I first purchased Yaktrax as a gift for my mom. She's 66 and an avid walker, but was diagnosed with osteoporosis and was worried about slipping in the winter -- but really missed her walks! The Yaktrax gave her fabulous traction and now she doesn't worry about a little snow or ice -- she walks with confidence!

I've since purchased them as gifts for tons of people and they love them -- and for myself. My husband is a marathon runner and the Yaktrax enable him to maintain his winter training schedule. And I own them too. We live in CT on a hill, and the Yaktrax hold even when you're walking down a slippery driveway, shoveling snow, or whatever.

My mom now keeps a pair in the house for regular use, plus one in the car for emergencies!

Tough To Adjust Straps

I purchased the Yaktrax product for my daughter. She fell on the ice last winter and shattered both her arms. After painful reconstructive surgery and months of recovery, she is very nervous about the coming snowy and slippery weather. I had puchased another pair of less expensive grippers, but returned them immediately upon arrival. [...]I know they will help my daughter feel more confident about the slippery weather to come!
