I used these during every snow event last year and they held up like champs. They are especially useful after those "rain-snow-rain-snow" events with the layer of ice under the layer of snow. These "Pro" versions stay on very well with the over-the-toe strap. Since they come in black I can used them with my military uniform also, and fit extremely well over the combat boot.
Used them while hiking Longs Peak.
Can't even imagine how many times I would have fallen without them. A little hard to put on, but once they were on, they didn't budge. Great product.
I have two dogs, who together weigh more than I do. In icy weather, I don't leave the house without these. They keep me SAFE!
Use whenever there is slippery condition on ground, easy to pull on and off, stays on, comfortable, amenable to various types of outdoor footwear, [...]
As prior avid outdoorser, now disabled, I got great use of "regular" yaktrax in recent years. Got more for my family. Now getting "pro" yaktrax for me.
Floor friendly coil design makes yaktrax better than all the rest, except crampons on high peaks. Yaktrax can stay on until I get to a chair for safe & simple removal.
We have 4 inches of thick ice and I have
perfect traction with these. Am buying
three additional pairs for my family.
I bought these after Christmas...they were on my list but no-one got them. I have used them on pure ice and varied grades of ice/snow. I never slipped once even down and up grades. I wore them on boots and mid weight shoes and found no issues with fit. You can feel them pull on a sneaker though. I never had any issues with them icing up or collecting snow. My only trouble was they broke. One of the lines near the heel snapped. They were usable and did not affect the function. I had maybe 25 miles on them at this point. I called EMS customer service and they shipped out a return label,I sent them back, they shipped out a new set...whole thing took 8 days. Thank-you EMS. They are a great product and I will keep returning them if they break.
I've only used them a few times and I'm hooked! I live in the city and these are great for unshoveled sidewalks and icy roads. They're so lightweight you only notice you're wearing them when you hit cleared pavement. They give you great traction on what would otherwise be treacherous terrain. I have a little trouble taking them off since they grip your boots/shoes so tightly, but this is a minor drawback. I also wish they came with a carrying pouch since you really can't keep them on when you go indoors. Anyone who lives in snowy/icy weather needs to buy a pair!
While the Yaktrax Pro MAY be appropriate for walking around town they should not be sold as a device for hiking. [...]I purchase them for use on the trail when crampons or snowshoes are unnecessary. What a mistake. The Yaktrax slip off and aren't nearly as good as similar devices such as Stabilicers or even better MicroSpikes by Kahtoola. I am going to return my Yaktrax to EMS and purchase one of these options ASAP.
Yaktracks make it so much easier and safer to do our farm chores after an ice storm. No more slipping on icy paths. We should have bought them years ago!
I bought this for my elderly father who has trouble walking in general and thought this would make him less afraid to go outside when it has snowed. I also bought it for my husband who is a carpenter/painter, to keep him safer when working outside when it's snowy and slippery. And I bought some for other family and friends who have to be outside shoveling and generally walking when it has snowed/sleeted and is slippery outside.
I love this product and can only think of three things to make it better: first, write the size somewhere on the actual product. Once it was out of its packaging, I couldn't tell (and I'd bought several sizes for 6 different people!). Second, provide some type of holder to keep them in between uses, something easy to throw in a backpack or pocketbook that is nicer than the plastic packaging it comes in. Finally, do a better job advertising this to the mainstream public; it could be a tremendous help to a lot of people who don't think of themselves as outdoor folk but have mobility problems.
That's it!
I walk three greyhounds every morning on snow/icy roads. Previously, not using the product I fell. I have not fallen since using the product. The product is great on icy downhill roads. It is easily to put on and doesnot clog up in snow. Thank you
Yaktrax Pro is awesome for intermittent running usage and light enough to carry for those times when one might need the extra traction. I tried using them on a longer trail run with mixed rock and snow conditions and they did not last. They are great though for carrying and usage for those intermittent slick spots or for walking in. I also got some for my parents who don't need to risk a fall in the parking lot somewhere or on the driveway. They love them, easy to put on and take off.
Great anti-slip devices for my daily walks.
The product grips well on packed snow and ice. But the sizing as listed on the package is much smaller. I had to switch for large for my mother instead of small - she wears size W-9 boots ...
I ordered the yaktrack according to the size chart. When I recieved them they were really hard to put on my regular shoes. I can't even imagine trying to get them on boots. I have the other type of yaktrax without the strap and love them. I've sent them back for the next size up and am sure they will be perfect for use with heavier boots
I got this for all my family and have not stopped recommending it. These are great!
A small is supposed to fit men's shoe sizes 5-8.5. While I can secure it well enough to my size 8, average hiking boots, it's quite a stretch, and I really have to pull and tug at it. It is certainly not "easy to put on," like the ad copy says. In fact, it doesn't seem that a small might fit a size 8.
These are great for walking on icy walks. Without the straps they can come off in deep snow - be sure to get the ones with the straps.
I love my yaks. I am an avid walker and runner and it makes those annoying slippery days a non factor.
