The best!
It was about time to buy new boots, and I do a lot of hiking around New Jersey, I wanted them ready and broken in for an annual 10 day summer trip I do (different location every year, usually in the Rockies). I picked up these after trying them on and reading mass reviews (my previous pair were Scarpa Mustang GTXs, and while a good boot, never quite got the fit right with the European sizing - Asolos are Italian, made in Romania, but have American sizes here in the States). Out of the box, they are not 'good to go' as some reviewers have noted... the guy working at the EMS store noted his Asolo 520s came very stiff as well. That said, these are obviously sturdy, well crafted boots. I have already stuck a new pair of green Superfeet in them - this is not a reflection of the manufacturer insole, but just more the fact I do it to every pair of hikers I own. Wearing around the house to begin the break-in process, they feel stiff, but to be expected with full grain leather boots. The lacing system rocks (Instead of d-rings, they have little 'rollers' - you pull on end of laces and it tightens quicker than any shoe I've owned. The first set of speed rings is designed tight to 'lock' in the lace.) - although I can see where I'm going to provide some extra care there, because I can see dirt and grime becoming an issue in the roller.
Anyways, feels like a great boot, definitely sturdy, and hopefully long lasting to match some of the reviews I've read over the internet.
I have had these boots for a couple of months and love 'em. Used the a couple weeks ago for a snowshoe trip and stayed very comfortable.
Wished they had a protective rand which would have give them 5 starts.
I'm a big person, and I wear my boots every day. I need rugged, tough boots that can withstand a beating. These are among them.
Still in the process of breaking in. Looking forward to hit trails, snow, dirt, rocks whatever crosses our path. Looks well made for years of use.
Purchased my wife a pair of Asolo hikers a couple years ago and she loves them.
Bought these boots to replace my Vasque Sundowner's that had surpassed their mileage. Perfect fit for my feet, great support and stability. Only one issue: They do not seem to have great traction on wet rocks/pavement. My Vasque boots had better adherence, but that's about it. Excellent lacing system, feet stay well positioned and comfortable.
Got these because the 520's were just a tad wide in the forefoot for me. [...] Figured they'd meed some breakin time. I was wrong, they felt fantastic right away. Haven't had them in the woods yet, but have been wearing them daily for 2 weeks now doing some remodelling around the house. Up and down ladders, standing on concrete, and climbing on the roof. At the end of the day, my feet feel great and legs and back awesome. Can't wait to get the pack on and hit the trails.
Great construction, very durable, good looks.Cons:Poor ankle support, lateral roll out potential...the boot was a factor in my recent incident with breaking my fibula and tearing tendons and ligaments in ankle....8 weeks in a cast. Although I am fully recovered, I will not dare hike without a laced up ankle brace. Even experienced roll out with other ankle but no injuries. "No, I do not have weak ankles. The good news: [...] told me they will return my money or issue a store credit. That's all I can expect and will continue to be a loyal customer.
Great boot. I could see how the dogs could get hot on a summer hike. It might be pretty standard though for sturdy hiking boots.
Of course they are a lot of money but they are sooo worth it! Extremely comfortable right out of the box, you'll find yourself wearing them everywhere. I've worn them hiking as well as on the jobsite (construction) and they have not failed to hold up to their expectations. I was thinking the other day how when these wear out in a few years I'm gonna go out and buy them same thing again! I have even taken them ice fishing and they stayed dry, however after a while my feet did get cold. Other than that the boots are amazing!
hiked many times up mt washington never had foot problems after any hike excellent trackion.will never buy any other boot except asolo.
The first time I wore these boots out of the house was a steep, rocky, climb, and then a steeper descent over the course of 4 hours. The dogs were happy but quite steamy - as expected on a warm day in the sun. No hotspots, no blisters, and solid comfy support in all directions.
the price is little bit high, but it is worth paying for. I knew about Asolo boot since 1993, and I would buy them again and again.
I was turned on to Asolo boots by a Friend that hikes, but I needed a tough durable waterproof and warm boot to work in as I work for the Hghway Department for the town I live in. I took a chance and these boots and they have proven to be the best "WORK BOOTS" I have ever owned.
Have not had these boots long, but just used them on a trip to summit of Mt. Washington. Never broke them in but had no problems and were very comfortable. The lacing system is great. Have not found any cons yet, I think it was well worth the money.
Very happy with Asolo. This is my fifth pair of Asolo boots. We go way back. I won't buy another brand, they serve my purpose perfectly.
