Comfortable from the start, can wear them all day. They do run about 1/2 size small. Have been keeping my feet dry from the rain. I would recommend them.

These boots are great! I wear them almost daily and am looking to purchase another pair. They are a bit snug with thick, heavy socks but are perfect with average weight socks. I'm waiting to see if they loosen up at bit before deciding whether to go a half size larger on my next pair. Great fit, no heal slippage. Like old friends from the start. More comfortable than my Merrill's which up to now I thought were the most comfortable.

Just came back from a trip to the Canadian Rockies. Experienced all 4 seasons in one week so the boots were put to the test - they passed with flying colors. I was concerned the boots wouldn't keep my feet dry, but I hiked for 2 hours in the rain and my feet stayed warm and dry. They feel best with mid-weight hiking socks. Also, no break-in required. The are comfortable right out of the box. The boots do run small. I had to buy a whole size larger than I normally wear.

The shoe is functional and waterproof, yes, but the best thing about it is the fact that it is more comfortable than any shoe I've ever owned, let alone any hiking boot I've owned. My foot doesn't slide and is entirely, comfortably encased in the boot without squeezing, rubbing or being over-confining. I've already taken them on three ten-plus mile hikes and I have NO complaints. Well worth the money!

I purchased this boot when I was recovering from a double heel fracture, and found that it gave me great ankle/instep support despite its light weight. I love the fit and the lightness, but after wearing this boot for much of a year I have come to hate it for its inability to repel water (despite repeated coats of Nikwax), coupled with its inability to breathe. Early yesterday, after trekking around birdwatching in a wet hayfield, I came home with sopping wet boots, socks, and feet. In addition, when I removed the insole, I found beads of water underneath it, and what looks like a black mildew growing on the boot's inner sole.

I used these boots for hiking through China and Vietnam and they were fantastic! Didn't give me any blisters at all, great traction, with good ankle support for steep descents.
They also kept my feet toasty along with some good wool socks.
Not very waterproof but good enough if you're not hiking through torrential downpour.

I own the original Keen sandals (5 years) and the Portola shoes (1 year) and absolutely LOVE them. I love the style, the wide toe and the width of the toe box. Based on that and others' comments, I paid [$] for these boots. I couldn't wait to get them. When they finally arrived I was totally disappointed: the boot is too small, even though I ordered 1/2 size bigger than my other Keens and the toe box is much more narrow than my other keens. Are these REALLY Keens?[...] Otherwise, the boot, although not meeting up to the Keen standard that I know in these areas is the most stable boot I've found thus far.

Perhaps this shoe works well for mountain hikes - I found I needed something much more flexible in order to feel the rocks under my feet for good placement.
After a day of walking in them, with thin socks, my feet were sore.
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Boots have an extremely personal fit. We have fit guides online under our Expertise category with a live link to Personal Boot Fitter or better yet meeting with one of our Boot Gurus in an EMS store will help insure a great fit.

Love these boots and I have issues with my feet, so the wide toe box make them perfect for my feet. They are comfortable out of the box, no break in time. I wore them for the first time on a short hike and two days later on a 12 mile mountain hike and didn't have a minute of discomfort!

After suffering through many pairs of boots, these boots feel like heaven. They fit perfectly right out of the box and I've never had a blister or sore spot yet. My feet are wide at the toe and pretty narrow at the heel, so I've often found boots don't fit well in the heel -- until I bought these. They feel like I'm hiking in my favorite running shoes, but with more support around the ankle. Ordering a half size larger was necessary, and I think a whole size larger may have been in order. I have only two concerns: 1) durability -- the boots are light and have a lot of sewing and are already fraying a bit after a month, but maybe that's expected; they're not heavy duty backpacking boots; and 2) the sole is not as non-slip as I would hope. It's good but not as good as the Vibram soles of my Merrell trail runners. That said, I wince for complaining at all because these boots are so comfortable, but these two issues do keep me from awarding 5 stars to these otherwise perfect boots.
I see why they keep selling out!

I bought these after a friend recommended them. I had not hiked in 7 years and just received these 2 days before the hike. I didn't really have a chance to break them in before heading out on our 8 mile hike. I didn't get a single blister, my feet felt great all day long, these aren't too heavy, and they didn't get wet despite hiking through a waterfall and numerous creeks. I also wore them another day when I was chasing two little nephews around who are both under 3, and they performed well for that too!

These boots are the most comfortable I have ever worn. It's too bad that they started falling apart less than three weeks after purchase. Poorly made. The treading is coming off. Would be perfect if they were waterproof and better quality material/assembly.

I shattered my heel last summer, and need a boot that is flexible but that offers excellent support, particularly around the ankle. This boot has been a godsend for me, and has actually had a therapeutic effect on my injured foot! (I've bought a second pair for when the first wears out!) A strange defect in the design, tho, is its failure to prevent water from running down one's leg and INTO the boot. I walked through my neighbor's wet hayfield one morning, and when I got home, my boot was full of water and sloshing. Probably you can fix this by wearing low gaiters. Apart from this minor problem, the boot is comfortable and well constructed. I hope it will be durable.

Fabulously comfortable hiking boots that don't require breaking in. No blisters on my first wearing, a 5mile hike including elevation and descent. The first time I've had this experience is many iterations of hiking boots, as I have sensitive feet. Great traction. The reflective spots are cute and a plus.

These boots are the most comfortable I've ever worn right out of the box...no mole skin applications needed. Definitely run small, so ordered half size up as advised. Great fit, light weight, great ankle support and good looking. Walked 4 miles on a 90 degree day and feet felt alive. Just buy them, don't debate the purchase.

I've had major problems with foot injury in the past two years, and I haven't been able to hike much. These boots are a good compromise between a shoe - which doesn't provide nearly enough protection or support for hiking - and a really sturdy, stiff, heavy boot. The Keen footbed is great for me - fits my custom orthotics fine and is comfortable. And this boot is just perfect - not too much boot, but not too little either. I also love the boot height - hits just on my ankle instead of well above my ankle. That way my foot and calf muscles get support but don't have to work hard fighting the boot. If you like other Keens for around the town, take these boots on trails and on mountain hikes and you'll like them there!! (They'd be fine for around town too I'm sure!)

I have RA and have feet that often hurt. Not in my Keens. The Targhee mid offers ankle support too. Did have to go a 1/2 size bigger than typical Keen size. Whether I wear them to school, walking around town or on hikes with the kids through the woods, sand dunes in Northern Michigan - they are fantastic.
