I currently use this hat in Baghdad where it's 120 degrees in the shade and even worse in the sun. It works great for keeping the sun off my face, ears and neck. It rolls up small enough to shove in your cargo pocket. I'm taking it with me next month for 10 days in Jordan hiking, biking, climbing and diving.
I like that I can remove the neck cord. I like my hat on or off, not haning from my neck.
I wish it breathed a little bit better. I don't think we've come up with a material yet that breaths enough for desert life.

bought this hat to use for surf kayaking and because it had a "chin strap" to avoid losing it in heavy surf or doing a roll. worked perfectly and kept my head from sunburn.
This hat is extremely comfortable and light weight. It breathes well and has good adjustment using the bungee cord. It stays in place in wind even without using the neck strap. I recently wore it on the beach at Cape Hatteras, NC and it stayed in place in steady 20 mph winds and gusts in the 30's.
The only thing that would improve this hat would be GoreTex or a water repellent fabric.
