Inner jacket does not zip in, but once you are used to putting it on and double zipping, it is not a big deal. I'll unlikely wear just the inner jacket, so the woodgrain pattern some have complained about is not an issue to me. Plenty of pockets, and actually, since the inner jacket does not zip in, more are accessible. That also allows access to the powder collar. I use the jacket for alpine skiing.
