A well designed product, comfortable and for me (size small) the fit was good - correct length and (dare I say it) a slightly tapered fit instead of the usual sack effect.

I use this for casual wear instead of a sweater, also when I travel - great!

This light-weight vest is great for spring weather in the Rockies! Works as a nice under-layer on colder days, or as a stand-alone outer-layer when the temperatures warm up. The turtleneck collar is a nice bonus. If it only had pockets for my hands or to store keys, etc. when I'm using it as an outer layer, it would be perfect!

There's been a dismaying trend with EMS clothing over the past year or two. I purchased one of these vests two years ago, size men's small, and it fit me perfectly. I bought the same model recently, and it was WAY too big! Please go back to normal sizing, or else introduce a size extra-small. Otherwise I will no longer be able to wear EMS clothing, which is a shame, since it's generally affordable and well made.

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:We'll pass your sizing concerns up the EMS food chain to address any potential inconsistency. Thanks for the review.

I wanted a fleece vest to wear walking, jogging, and sailboat racing. This was on sale for [$]!! can't beat the price. The only con with the design is lack of pockets(this is notated by EMS when ordering that only one color has pockets.) Nevertheless, for the price you can't beat it!! I wear it over a long sleeve wicking shirt.

I bought 4 different colors.

I now own 10 of these vests, one in basically every color. I really like them; however, the last 3 I purchased do not have features from pervious versions. For instance, the zippered pockets have been removed, and there is no longer a black fringe along the zipper and around the sleeve holes. Also, the small is now bigger than it used to be. The original 5 I purchased fit perfectly, but the last 5 are bigger. Note that the 2 vests I bought a year ago have the zippered pockets, but are bigger. You should revert to the version that you offered about 3 or 4 years ago. It is much better than the ones EMS currently offers. Also, you should offer one in brown.

In the south east, for a good part of the year it can frequently be between 60 and 70 degrees. So in lieu of a coat, I like to layer with your microfleece vest. However, this means I don't have the use of the pockets a coat would have. It was really convenient that my previous versions from EMS had roomy zip-up pockets. I bought 2 of them a few years ago and got great usage out of them. When I finally needed to replace them, I found that you had done away with the pocket in all but one bright orange clearance vest. So now I have to stuff my pants pockets with whatever I'm carrying which is a bit of a pain. Every other aspect of the product I really love, from the weight to the length, which by the way appears to be slightly longer--something a tall person like me was very glad to see. Thanks for a very good product that is only missing one thing--the zip-up pockets.

The only thing that I would say is a con is that only the orange vest has pockets, but you can easily make up for this with other gear.

I like a light vest for cold weather hiking, cool rock cliimbs and chilly commutes. This vest has a looser cut for layering and breathability. The bottom hem is a bit looser than expected, but comfortable. The seams and stitching at the chin is bunched up a bit and scatchy, best left a little unzipped.

Love EMS's microfleece. Quality micro is hard to find..most products are now stretch-tech poly blends. Nice to have the softness of fleece as an underlayer or standalone option.

I miss the pockets of previous designs...and, I would like for the vest to be appx 2 inches longer. A longer vest has no significant drawbacks, and looks/feels better when wearing it on its own.

This vest is very soft, and the color is soothing to the eyes, besides that...it is so lightweight you could use it on a run in the Fall or early Spring and that is about it. The cut around the back over the bum is great, but the vest is still rather short (just above/on the belt buckle) and a good fit.
The collar is great length, unlike the Columbia vests...it does not stretch up to your jaw, which I think is rather uncomfortable. It is definitely warmer and softer than the REI woodland vests. The only vest that is one up on this is the Northface Windwall, and then that is just a matter of spending.

I bought one of these supermicro vests a couple of seasons ago. Loved it. Ordered another one this season. Disapointed. EMS took out the side pockets which were great for hand warming and stashing my ID or keys. Also they took out the wind barrier from the front which makes it less likely to wear alone. Now I have a basic vest with no functionality other than another layer.

This fleece, coupled with the long-sleeve lightweight Techwik shirt, works well at keeping warm without getting too warm. It's of particular use on those "in-between" temperature days in mid-spring when hiking some of the White Mountain 4000-footers that start out warm at the base but become a bit cooler at the summit. The pockets are helpful, as well.

Backcountry, Casual Wear
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was looking for a fleece vest (with minimal bulk) that I could wear around the house or to work (I work in a casual dress office) and also that would fit under my outer shells, both of which have little room for multiple under-layers. This vest fits the bill on both counts.

In Florida, most sweaters and PolarFleece jackets are too heavy. Micro Fleece is just right and a full zipper makes it more flexible in varying temperatures. If there were more colors, I'd buy more of these.

It performed well for a full day in the backcountry near Vail, CO with temps hovering around 8 degrees. My only complaint is that the zipper pulls are much too small and I needed to add pull cords. He loved it! I bought it as a Christmas gift and he wore it for a week straight! It's the first thing he grabs when he leaves the house. Nice fleece, breathable, comfortable, fashionable. Great for hiking!
