Nice jacket, but as far as a winter coat here in VT, it's a joke. I unzipped their inner jacket which has like no insulation and zipped in a Mtn Hardwear down vest. That provides enough insulation. Too bad North Face badly skimped on the insulation that came with this jacket.

I used the jacket immediately after I bought it during a ski weekend and it was awesome! I never had an issue with being too cold. The only thing I can say is that there aren't any inside pockets when using the inner-fleece layer, however the shell itself has some... a minor inconvenience but definitely still worth the buy!

coat is well made, typical north face. slightly smaller than what I expected, possibly due to liner, which is quite warm. no pit-zips in the liner, so not sure how well it will vent heat. haven't had a chance to test that yet.

I use it for my day to day winter jacket in Manhattan. Even sometimes over a suit. The inner jacket is soft, warm and comfortable. Also a little bit "pretty" - the fabric. It is a nice change from the fleece inner layer that I had been using. Dries quickly. The outer layer is still a little bit stiff, but this also means that it seems durable. It is OK for the commute, and knocking about town. It is also good for skiing and outdoor play, but I find I have to keep moving in order to stay warm. I do not stay warm if I am standing around outside, on a cold day.
North Face as a brand has totally taken over Manhattan. I would say that as many as 1 in 3 people on the subway are wearing the brand any time I get on. It crosses demographics, and there may even be a sort of inner city cachet to the brand now that goes beyond North Face just being good outerwear.
The conspicuousness of the logo is a negative for me; I would much rather not be part of a "movement." I noticed that the high end models of North Face now only have the logo on the inside, so it's clear that the designers at North Face have clued in to this.
Another nit, is that downward zipping of the pockets, the easier motion, opens them. In the city, the thing you want to do most easily is close your pockets (e.g., to deter pickpockets).

The jacket is stiff the area near the mouth is nice and warm but gives little neck mobility. Though I have not washed it yet, so maybe some fabric softner would loosen that up. Other than that it is a warm versatile jacket all around.

I needed something that was good for windy conditions and extreme winter cold when I use public transportation to commute. after trying patagonia, this turned out to be a good choice. i did not want a zip-in triclimate system, and did not want a down jacket, so this turned out to be the best choice. i am a bit disappointed that the collar seems to stand attention - but maybe that's the newness of the coat. overall - 4 stars in quality

I bought this jacket for myself for Christmas. It's very warm, yet lightweight, and fits like a glove. While it's not gortex, I've been pleasantly surprised with the jacket's waterproof finish as it does a very nice job repelling the elements in rain/snow weather. I have the basin blue color and love it.

This is a great coat by northface. It doesn't feel heavy and is warm. Great protection against water with it staying on the top of the coat and easily shaken off when getting indoors. The napolean pockets are also useful for carrying small things. It feels warm but the weather hasn't been cold enough for me to really test it out in that respect.

Triclimate is a perfect name for this jacket! Versatility in a variety of climate conditions makes this jacket stand out. Just be sure you purchase the Triclimate jacket for your needs as there are a variety to choose from and it is a little difficult to judge which of these are just right for your climate. The Amlitude is perfect for those chilly southern morning winters that turn a bit mild by the afternoon.

Overall, a great value [...]. The two chest pockets are great for stowing a variety of items, and the length is good (I'm 6'5"). However, I live in Seattle, and just took my dog for a walk in the driving rain. The jacket hood and shoulders shed water well, but the back and chest of the coat quickly became wet (i.e. they *didn't* shed water well). The jacket has not seen its first washing, so I would have expected more water shedding ability. Also, I'm not a huge guy, and the jacket feels tight under the arms (i.e. I think the chest is not quite large enough).

I like the product; it is warm, lightweight, comfortable and stylish. I like the colors. The zip-out liner is warm and thin--because of it's thin shell and new non-fleece lining, the liner is warmer and really does work well as an additional stand-alone jacket. The shell of the jacket is comfortable and the combo of liner and shell provides warmth and protection without bulk. The jacket could be a bit longer.
