I like these pants much better than the pants that replace them -- I have 2 pairs, one I've had for 5 or 6 years, the other I just bought recently. These pants are less baggy in the leg than the newer ones which feels better for me on the trail, also the adventure pants have a snap rather than a button (I hate buttons, they all eventually fall off and are not nearly as quick to change) and an easier clip mechanism.
I like these pants a lot. They have plenty of pockets and fit good. I use them as a layer in winter and are perfect for the spring hikes when you never know whether to plan for shorts at the bottom or long pants at the top.
The only shortcomings to these pants is the belt is not removable, and some may feel they are too short when zipped off to be worn as fashionable shorts (for me however they're perfect for staying cool when hiking).

The first time I used these pants, i wore them up to tuckermans ravine. They were great. Even in a few feet of snow they didnt get wet. I just wore some pajamas and some techwick pants. They were light, but warm. Also when it was warm in the beginning I could have worn them as shorts if I wanted to. All in All great pants.

I have several pairs of these pants as they are so comfortable, packable and they dry so quickly. I am a female who enjoys hiking and backpacking, and have started buying the mens' sizes as they are much easier to add layers under than the clingier womens' sizes. The one drawback is the nylon is a little noisy, so if you need to be 'tactical' wear something else.

Tactel is a tougher material than that used in other other nylon pants I have tried. Pretty good protection against the occasional pricker bush. Burdocks won't even cling to them. They breath well to help keep you cool. Plastered with mud from the knee down when you get to camp? Zip the legs off, give them a quick rinse in the stream, and they'll be dry in a 1/2 hour...plenty of time to do a tick check on your calves and put some dry socks on. No sticking noticed with the zippers like some more expensive ones I've tried. Front slit pockets are deeeep, like they should be. Workmanship is superb...no loose threads, double stitching, extra stitching on stress points. Best pants I've found for off-trail adventures.

Bought the Excursion, I believe it was, before they were discontinued. This is a far superior pant so far as fit and construction. I love the belt and ankle zippers though an inside stash pocket would have been nice. I usually wear 28/30" pants but the small/short fits extremely well considering other size Small products I've purchased that were waist size 30"+. The DWR finish is nice, but we'll see how long it lasts. Great pants for a great price!

Could you make these in black as well as in charcoal.. But love the pants - I use for golf..and if get to hot can zip off pants.. tks..again

The only negative I have on these pants is the front of the legs pill very early in the wear. It seems in a matter of a couple months of occasional wear the surface from the knees and above becomes all rough and pilly making them look very sloppy. Otherwise they're fantastic. I have 6 pair of them.

I've got several pairs of these pants and use them almost every time I play outside. If I'm in an adventure race, these are the pants/shorts I use! A few bummers: bring back the black version, and give us back the different-colored zippers on the different legs! That used to be one of the best features of these pants - when you've been moving for 36 hours straight and your mind's not quite right, it seriously reduces the fumbling you need to do with such an obvious visual cue. The only other thing that would make them perfect - give us a way to cinch the ankles! (Otherwise, biking becomes an issue.)
I've thrown just about everything at these pants- there's some pilling from too many miles on a bike seat, but otherwise these guys look like new. Catch 'em when they're on sale - you'll be glad you did.
Great style and warmth. Dry in a flash.

These pants are my favorites... I have 4 pairs. I've tried competitor's versions and they are no where near as well designed and made as the EMS ones... the competitor's pockets are typically too small, in the wrong places for effecient use and the velcro or zipper closures are awkward. The EMS design is very workable and the material is more durable, washes easier and wrinkles less. I've worn these in Africa, in the Sahara and Southeast Asia. Only issue I have with the EMS pants are that the gray color is a little odd in hue... I would prefer a more nuetral gray instead of the blueish gray they are.

Any zip off pants of this type are great for backpacking/camping, because they allow you to have both shorts and long pants while only packing/wearing one item of clothing. These pants are especially useful because of their quick dry material, I went swimming in them and thus avoided having to bring a swimsuit.

These are really great. The front pockets are huge and deep, the zip pocket is great for a cell-phone, for example, and the front patch pocket is just the right size for a folded map.
They are light and do dry quickly, the corollary, is that they do wet somewhat quickly too. I did find myself having to exchange them for a larger size than I normally do so do try them on first if you can.
Overall, these are my favourite hiking trousers.

It seems like something that wouldn't be possible but the pockets on the front are TOO BIG! When you drop your keys in there, they go all the way down to above your knee, and bang into your kneecap on each step. Plus, you have to dig down to your elbow to fish them out. Otherwise, these are great. Could be fixed with a seam across the pocket to shorten it up. Your call...

Please bring back the Excursions. Why did EMS quit making the best fitting and feeling zip offs around? I wish you would have told me they were discontinuing the Excursions. I would have bought more.
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:The women’s Apparel Team has informed us that we’ll be offering a new zip-off style in July 07, a Camp Cargo zip-off, in 2 colors, Tarmac Green and Fossil. They'll offer a closer resemblance to the Excursion Pants.

I buy a new pair every year. The new pair is for hiking and climbing. The old ones become work pants. They last forever. My only caution is to keep them away from campfire embers and hot metal, as they will melt holes in the pants.

bought three pairs, they have shrunk, now just too short, flood pants
Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Nylon shouldn't shrink at all...unless it's exposed to a dryers high heat. Due to the nature of the fabric...the spin cycle in the wash should get the pants close to dry. Our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports® purchase.

Great hiking pants, I'm glad you brought them back. Last years replacements were not as good. Big pockets to carry items you want to get to quickly. lightweight, quick dry, tear resistant. Could come in more colors though. Especially bright colors that show up durring hunting season.

I wore these pants in Israel, Jordan and Cyprus recently. They were great in all types of weather: very hot, warm and cool. They were great both recreationally and even worked fine on those days I was in a classroom teaching. I can't think of a more versatile pair of pants. If I take one pair of pants with me on a trip-these are the ones! Nice job EMS!

I like the pants and the price. Our scouts wear them everywhere. We recommend the pants to new scout families since they are available in more sizes than what BSA offers.

This is my second pair. I literally wore out the first pair hiking in the canyons of Utah. They give me the free movement I need for climbing up and down the steep canyon walls. If I run into water at the bottom of the canyon, the pants dry out in minutes in the summer sun.
