I have several Techwick shirts. The Heavyweight is definitely for warmer weather. These shirts are very durable, hold their color well, the fabric looks good wash after wash. I have one lightweight Techwick shirt that has snags and runs, but the Mid, and Heavyweights don't have that happening.

As with the complete Techwick line, this is basically a wonderful garment. However, because it doesn't have the thumb-loops at the ends of the sleeves as some of the other garments have, it is difficult to layer unless it is the top piece. Attempting to put it under another shirt causes the sleeves to ride up and bunch-up uncomfortably. We do wish that it was easier to figure out which of the techwick garments have the thumb-loops and which do not. But that's a problem with the written product description, not a problem with the product.

We originally intended to use the shirt during ski season, but found it impracticable because it lacks "monkey thumbs." We now use it for camping, hiking and travel. We also use it as casual wear in the cooler mountain weather because it is a much more stylish top layer than the ubiquitous hoodies.

It's great the shirts come in a variety of colors. The bright green that we chose makes it easy to be seen amongst the crowd of red and black dressed people.

This is an extremely well made shirt. As a base layer it is very warm and easy to adjust temps with the zipper. The material is VERY sturdy and comfortable. I used to wear the Patagonia Capilene stuff but now I prefer my EMS Techwick. My only gripe is that there are not very many colors and styles available with the zipper.

In general US sizes are bigger than European sizes. Once you have learned to master this and order a magnitude smaller than usual they fit very well.

This particular product is a great favourite of mine. One of them is on most of the time. It is soft, very comfortable and keeps you at a comfortable temparature both indoor and outdoor. Compared to standard fleece the material keeps a proper surface in spite of frequent wearing.

This shirt makes a fantastic layer. I run heavy distance in this shirt, and I am repeatedly amazed at how well it wicks sweat away. It is also surprisingly warm for a thin shirt, and makes a good shirt to wear when not working out.
That having been said, there are a few design flaws that spoil its engineering. First off, the shirt is too baggy to wear as a base layer. Secondly, the stitching and the zipper have not been covered on the inside of the shirt by a piece of fabric, so when using this as an underlayer the zipper not only chafes against the skin but also stays cold.
Despite these flaws, it is still an excellent make. My solution was simply wearing a Techwick 1 or Techwick 2 shirt underneath it, and the combination is the most effective I've ever worn

i decided to try these as the base layer for snowboarding...they are warm and light. But, the fabrics seems fuzzy, thus give an old-worn look.
i am a size medium on almost everything - and the small size of these shirts feels bigger than a medium. As a base layer, they feel too loose. If EMS makes x-small size, may be it'd be perfect.
I also tried to jog w/ these. Again, the almost baggie size made it super airy inside the shirt and made it really poor at trapping heat. If the fit were snug, i think the heat trapping ability would be improved.

I have two other heavy weight Tech shirts that I puchased last year 2006. The quality of these shirts is far superior to the new one I just bought. The collar on the new one is cheaply design , the new material is fuzzy and weak & is no where near the quality of last year's shirt.

This is the first time I have been disappointed by EMS, and I hate to complian but , I am paying a premium because I have had good results. I guess now that EMS is manufacturing in Mexico, things have gone down hill. And the shirts I bought last year were made by EMS in China... hmmm?

I live in the Northeast where most of my buddies put their motorcycles away for the winter. Last weekend, I put my Techwick Heavyweight over a lightweight performance undershirt, then finished with a denim shirt and my riding jacket with liner. Went for a one hour ride in 27 degree temperatures and could have stayed out longer if my riding buddy didn't get so cold. This is a great addition to my cold weather gear. It extends the riding season to virtually 12 months.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It is about 15 degrees F right now as I write this. I was outdoors most of the day, and wore just my T3 heavyweight Thermowick shirt with a Windstopper fleece jacket over it. I was quite comfortable. The shirt is basically a stylish and very durable long underwear top. I also had on the T2 Techwick bottoms under a pair of nylon ripstop hiking pants. That is another excellent product, and just right for a cold winter day. I wear a version of Techwick for all seasons, T-1 for warmer weather, and the T-3 tops for cooler weather, from the Fall to early Spring. It looks good enough to wear for casual wear, and tough enough for backpacking and hiking. I have even used it as PJs, for sleeping in cooler weather with a lighter weight sleeping bag. That is lighter and more versatile than carrying a heavier weight sleeping bag. You can wear Techwick, but you can't wear a sleeping bag! Besides, you usually spend more time hiking than you do sleeping anyway.

I wore this top with a light wind jacket on a 29degree breezy morning run. It was comfortable and warm, but not overheated, and kept the damp chill away. It also seems to manage the sweat well, from what I could tell. A little poetry for you guys. After the run, the shirt did not get odors.

flawed in front

Came with a big flaw in the front of the shirt....was a gift and I was embarrassed, but giftee didn't want to send it back. I am not happy with the price for that kind of quality!

The Techwick line of clothes has me covered winter, spring, summer and fall, from top to bottom. The thermo heavyweight is a cold weather favorite. This product puts Under Armour to shame!

I bought one used it so much in such a short period of time I wore it out. I now have bought another two T3s different color and rotate them so as to not wear just one out. Living in Maine and travel quite a bit for my military job I find this to be the best travel shirt available because its versatility allows it to ad just to the different climates across the country.

I bought two of these last year and they quickl became my favorite shirts. This Christmas I added three more in a variety of colors and couldn't be happier with them. The cut on this year's model seems a little fuller, neck a tad higher, but otherwise great shirt!

Great.

not very warm

I was looking for something warm and wind-resistant. This is neither. It also seems too loose and heavy for exercise activities.

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:Feel free to exchange or return your Teckwick top at any time. Regarding your review...this piece is Not wind proof or wind resistant. It is made to wear as a base or mid layer for colder temps. The heavy weight is a bit too heavy for very active use unless you are in extremely cold temps. The mid or lightweight layers are better suited for such things.
