Bought three of these for my son who is to spend his Spring semester in New Zealand. The versatility of the zip offs, and nylon construction will be very beneficial. He tried out one pair on a recent hike and is very pleased. His only complaint concerns the waist being tighter than expected compared to other similar size clothes.

When I tried these pants on, I couldn't even get them buttoned b/c the waist was so small. As far as length, they were about 2 inches from hitting the tops of my running shoes. [...]

Bought pants on-line. Size said 34". Taped measurement is 30". So much for on-line shopping at EMS....at least where pants are concerned.

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:The Excursion Pants have been incredibly popular for us and this is the first I’ve heard of any sizing discrepancy…you may have a mislabeled pair of pants. In any case we apologize for your trouble and would love to get you something that fits. Hopefully we can restore your faith in our online information in the future.

Nice Pants, good value, not perfect
By DanVerified Reviewer from Binghamton NY on 12/5/2006
Waist:
Tight at the hips
Length:
Feels true to length
Pros:
Breathable, Lightweight
Cons:
Fragile Mesh pockets, Restrictive fit
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Hiking

Overall these are nice pants, But there are 2 very serious flaws:

1:Restrictive fit around the hips-I've gotten used to it, but it is very tight arount the hips, to the point where it is difficult to even reach in the pockets. I wouldn't call it uncomfortable, but definitely restrictive. The waist itself fits fine.

2: The front pockets and inner cargo pockets are made of fragile mesh- the material can be easily snagged and damaged by items you put in your pockets, and I would be surprised if I don't develop holes within a few months.
The slight decrease in weight and perhaps increase in breathability is definitely not worth having pockets you can't trust. I have avoided using the zippered cargo pockets so I don't damage them, which is a shame because they would be very useful if I could use them.

If these flaws were fixed they would be the best pants I own and I would buy several more

Eastern Mountain Sports Response:If the pockets do tear we will stand behind our 100% guarantee. Although the fabric feels vunerable, it is quite tough and should perform well for you.

Excellent All-Around Pants

Length:

Pros:
High-Quality Material and Stitching, Lightweight, Packable
Best Uses:
Backpacking, Camping, Climbing, Hiking

They run a bit small. I usually wear 32x32, but had to return a pair of these for 34's. The length was fine. I love all the pockets! They are well articulated - I wore them on a couple of desert climbing outings and didn't feel constricted on any moves. They also kept me warm on a cold, wet morning(45F - yes, it does sometimes rain in the desert), and cool on a hot afternoon(approx 90F).

[...] has built much better pants. I don`t like the belt loops. They would be much better if they had an integral band and an elastic scruntch at the waist sides, improving the fit at the waist.
